Mercedes-Benz W202 1JZ-GTE VVT-i Project

Hi to all!

Yes, it's not an AMG version, but still it is not stock, and power output is near to AMG versions.

So, it was 96' Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor W202 MT (M111.975, 2.3 Kompressor, 193 bhp).

The power was not enough, and I don't want to tune already too old stock engine. Another variant was to make it turbo, but nobody in Russia can tune it's ECU properly. So me and my friend Bear Dima decided to swap Toyota 1JZ-GTE VVT-i engine and Toyota W58 5-speed Manual Transmission.

Few words about this engine:
R6, 2.5 l, single turbo, vvt-i system - 280 hp & 380 Nm full stock engine.

To be honest - it is probably the first W202 with 1JZ-GTE Engine and MT in the world. Another W202 with this engine i founded in Thailand, and it was NO information at all

So, we have ZERO important information about the swap but we STARTED the swap works in the end of October 2013.

My 1JZ-GTE Engine

So, the very first part was putting off stock engine & gearbox. Photos:

Custom exhaust system

So the next step was exhaust system.
I wanted to make 76 mm (3") exhaust from turbo, but my friend Bear Dima told me, that it will be TOO load for every day use. So i trusted him, and we make 63mm(2.5") exhaust. The sound is good now, and I'm happy that I listened to my friend and didn't make 3" =)))

DOWNPIPE, so beutyfull, isn't it?

That is freaking awesome! I don't care if it is no longer MB or AMG, an awesome w202 is still awesome.

I've always wanted to drop a big modern American v8 and a 6 speed in one.

Brakes

So, with much more power, then stock engine, we decided to change brakes. We take brakes from E420|E430 W210. E420|E430 W210 weights 200 kg more then my car, so for my car they have to be good.

W210 E420|E430, 330 mm VS. W202 C230 Kompressor stock, 290 мм

Ну и наконец передняя тормозная система собрана :ay:

I think you refer to "330x32" #: "210 421 23 12", for (CLK430/E430 4matic/SLK32).....

So, this was first EVER start of 1JZ-GTE VVT-i on my W202. No intercooler installed, straight pipe from turbo to intake manifold. Also without exhaust system at all. A lot of work was done, but a lot of work was left..

Not the first 1jz swap.. I remember reading it a couple of years ago. If I'm not mistaken, the car was from Indonesia or Hong Kong. But yours is more detailed on the build. I like the way it sounds by the way. Please post hp numbers after.

I’ve nothing but respect with regard to how you guys are willing to try new things and not take no for an answer. Trial and error is the only way something gets accomplished. I feel things are different in the U.S. these days and we tend to have a pessimistic view in making a build like this come to fruition.

I’m from the UK where they have an annual MOT test. Is it the same in Russia? I wish you the best of luck with the build and look forward to seeing the results!

Cheers,

-Rob
