Crankshaft Positioning Sensor?

Hopefully someone could shed some light on this problem that I've been having for the last six months. Car would not start once turned off, if it has been idling for a while. On cold days it refused to start at all. It also stalled on me several times while I had been stopped at lights. I removed the crankshaft positioning sensor and noticed oil on the very bottom of it. I cleaned the sensor as well as inside the sensor cavity and reinstalled the sensor. It was running perfect for approx. 1 week and now the same symptoms are reoccurring. Is it normal for a sensor to experience issues that come and go? I'm going to replace it but I want to make certain that it is indeed the sensor and not other contributing factors. Input is greatly appreciated. Thx

Never heard of someone rescuing a CPS by cleaning it. I've only ever heard stories of replacing it resulting in a repaired car.

Mine needs it too. It's intermittent but will ultimately always start. I'm luckier than most, from what I hear.

I say replace CPS and you'll be tops.

Hey Sulaco,

Hope all is well with you. Thanks for your input. I did order a OEM Bosch cps but it failed to fit as the guides on my wiring connection were different. Apparently the connection changed mid year and I have the '00 C43 sensor. If you're interested, I found OEM Bosch for $45 USD.

Cheers

Hi,

This Bocsh #: "0261 210 141", refers to OEM #: "003 153 95 28" or 96 28", with 2 pins,,

the one you have to get should be "0261 210 171", which is OEM #: "003 153 27 28" or "28 28", with 1 pin.....

Here is a pic. My cps wiring connection is on the right and the cps that was sent to me is on the left. Take notice of the three black guides as they are on opposite sides of my connector. Thx

Your currently connector capable with the one which has 1 pin #: "003 153 27 28" or "28 28",,

MB put that Extra guide in that postion, cause they using the same connector for the Alternator as well......

Hi Zayed,

The results were more impressive than I had anticipated. Throttle seemed more responsive and that resulted in quicker launches. Definitely worth the $170 USD. I haven't had the car dyno'd yet so as far as the stated 27HP increase, I'd have to say that it certainly feels accurate. Jerry was highly recommended and I've yet to hear of an unsatisfied customer.

Yes, $170. Eurocharged had a promo on two summers ago. Members were given a discount on top of the sale at the time. Great deal that I had to confirm with Jerry as I honestly thought that it was a mistake. He confirmed it and I immediately purchased. Not bad considering it comes with free updates for life.
