Reading codes

My winter work horse (C240T) has it's BAS/ASR light on from time to time. I want to read the codes to try tracking down the problem.

Noob question perhaps, but when you connect a code reader, do you leave the ignition on or leave it turned off?

Should be ON(second position), to open the circuit for codes reading...

Brake light switch.

On my 95' C36 and E55 the engine has to be on to check codes.

Thanks for the tip regarding the brake light switch. I didn't think about it.

The warning light first turned on when I hit a poor road surface with the brakes on (you should see the roads on the Italian side of the Alps after the winter, a disaster zone ). I stopped, turned off then turned on the ignition and the light switched off. Came back on shortly after. Now it is one all the time.

So, anymore ideas people?

did you back up to a wall and check your brakelights flashing?
if breaklight switch isn't broken maybe something with wheelspeed sensors is bad?

Both three (left, right and top central) brake lights work. Could be a wheel speed sensor. I'll get to read the codes this afternoon

I can't read the codes yet as the cable end to my laptop doesn't fit I have a Star clone code reader. I need to find a suitable cable but perhaps I could get a cable with a USB end. Perhaps that could work. If it's a ABS sensor, I'll see if I get it changed or not.

I may end up changing vehicle and I was thinking of something like this so as to have a pair of 43's... If so, then I would need a set of 18" Monos to place on this one.

I can't find a suitable cable to fit the multiplexer and the laptop. I need a plug like the one in the picture with a USB plug at the other end.

Any ideas from the geeks out there?

Edited to add a photo of the type of cable I need and found image on the net. Guess I haven't tried hard enough yet finding one

Hi Zayed,
Check my post #9 just above. You'll see the plug on the multiplexer on the left and the cable I need on the right. I have found a cable but I need to order it. So no code reading till next week sometime.

ZAYED,,
When I purchased the multiplexer, it came with several cables including the necessary type to plug into the w202 system. I'm OK for the link between the vehicle to the multiplexer, but I need that special cable for the link between the multiplexer and the laptop. Yes, I found a supplier in Switzerland. I have purchased several electrical parts from them for my Can-Am build.

You want a reference or more info?

Thankss Daniel,

this is the MAF male connector for GM LS2/LS3/LS7,,

our connector should be exactly like the MAF lens male with 2 side pins(see attached)....
