The fight against RUST!!!!!
good luck
If you're going to drive a w202 in the winter, do it with a PRE-1998 car. They changed the metal they use on the 1998-2000 c-class and they rust 10x as easy and fast as the earlier cars. I live in MN, I see it every day.
+1.
Listen to this guy. Also, if you can prevent it do not drive it in the winter.

My 00 C280 Sport was driven in winter. It had a couple small(Fingernail rust spots). I had it cleaned nearly every other day.

It was stripped of wheels, arch liners, front and rear scuff plates and undertrays and steam cleaned until totally naked underneath. Merc have done a half decent job in treating the bare metal but its a bit superficial and there were a lot of uncovered bits inside. The guys reckon its still a high quality old school build versus more recent mainstream Mercs but gave it the full works including removing the many grommets and coating the cavities inside the chassis, doors and sills with dinitrol which has a black hard wearing finish etc. Clear heat resistant coating was applied for the shocks, roll bars, exhaust etc.
Very happy with their work.
