My hood insulaiton has gone brittle and is starting to rub on the engine.
I ordered new bonnet insulation from the dealer,EPC shows part # A202 680 00 25, they sent me a folded up FEBI 33051 of which I can get anywhere in the world delivered to my door for half the price.
My original insulation has MB star and part number A202 682 03 26.
Should the dealer supply FEBI?
Should the part come folded? it is semi-rigid so that it does not fall on the engine!
when i ordered this insulation, dealer gave me Febi one, i shocked, i'ts bad quality, when i asked the dealer guy, what's is that, his face become half green & half blue, he said; it can be used in bed either...!
the good old #, "202 682 01 26" or "202 682 03 26", were made by "Zinger GMBH", they stopped auto business since 5/2001, MB then made an agreement contract with "Kitech/Febi/Mayer", for insulation & covering products,
i returned back Febi insulation to dealer, ans end it-up ordered one from here last year:
Zayed,
Good info thanks!, glad I'm not the only one recieving Febi from the dealer!
was yours folded from new?
I think they are ment to me shipped flat but some sellers fold them up to save on shipping costs?. as you know the 202 bonnet has only 4 clips holding it so may slump easy if the rigidity is lost
Dealer has ordered me a new liner,I guess it will be FEBI again, this time I hope it comes not folded and not damaged. If I order any other brand from overseas it will be expensive shipped flat or they will ship it folded!.
I assume when you say folded it comes rolled up. Folded for me would mean in a square or rectangular shape. Rolled is not too bad, but I agree folded is a no go for me too.
Zayed,DRB,
The one I ordered from MB may have come flat with no packaging(I assume comes into country in MB crate with plenty of space),but when they shipped it accross the city to me the courier looks to have folded it to fit in his hatch back, hopefully the new one comes with no folds, I dont want to glue it or have to make supports to hold it up,also the folds look awful, it would be ok if they were straight but they are like fork lightning^^.
this thread scares me, because I have two fifteen year old w202's with their original hood pads.
is there any thing we can do to our originals to treat them to make them hold up longer? perhaps some kind of spray coating to help them stay firm and solid? like scotch guard or something?
To sum up this I did eventually receive it flat a few months back, I think MB only supply Febi insulation now, they sent it to me in rigid cardboard this time .
But I noticed my V8 doesn't sound as loud now...then I saw a 202 with smaller insulation,so I found the part number and purchased this as well
Maybe the star will last a little longer with less heat buildup but maybe bonnet paint will not , at least it will never drop down and rub the amg intake..
