two questions(maf and spare tire related)

I also want to get a new airflow meter. I always get oem parts for my car but im not about to spend $300 on a piece of plastic that reads airflow. Anyone know if its safe to buy a cheap off brand?
I gave a try to "cheap" MAFs, Chinese ebay stuff that you see everywhere for $20 or so. Just forget about cheap MAFs, they don't work.
Got a box of them from ebay for my C230 fleet, tried several ones on different cars, but they ran like crap. Put all of them back in the box, sent it back for refund and since then it's either autohausaz or rockauto for OEM stuff.
Pierburg sensors are great
send this seller an email ask what crappy brand this is?

if you use 18" rims why do you carry the 17" spare in trunk?
keep it in the garage at home
extra load slows your car down when you wanna play

it's not necessary to have the 17 in the trunk.

I bought mine from German Star 8 years ago and have had no issues.
In regards to the wheel, you can run a 17 inch spare with 18 inch wheels no problem. The tire in both cases needs to be sized appropriately, but the overall diameter of the wheel and tire combo should be the same on both a 17 inch and 18 inch set up, you just have more wheel and less tire on the 18. Remember that the stock spare was a 215/45/17. It is important to match the rolling diameter on the rear so you don't overwork the differential, but the tire needs to be narrow enough to work on the front.
You can use this calculator to compare overall diameter of different tire sizes: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Edit: If I remember correctly, you are running 255/35/18's on the back, so you would want a 225/45/17 on your spare:
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/45-17 4.0in 12.5in 25.0in 78.5in 808 0.0%
255/35-18 3.5in 12.5in 25.0in 78.6in 806 0.2%

autohaus that's a no brainer

Bosch is the only source for such items and I wouldn't want anything else.
