'02 AMG 55 Motor Part Out

2002 E55 complete motor part out. Motor had a 100K Kms on it when it was removed from an '02 E55. All external and internal parts are available. Block has a bad cylinder and is too costly where I'm located to have it sleeved. Please pm me for parts and prices. Thx

Your first plan was to do an engine swap with this E55 engine?
Didn't you get any warranty from seller before you bought this engine?

I'm looking for this part, A112 010 0633 Steuergehäuse
Front engine cover holds the upper front airpump in place

How much ya want for it?

I picked up the complete motor for $1100 CAD. Due to the sellers father passing away a few months later, he decided to sell his salvage business and moved back to Europe. I'm just glad that I disassembled it and discovered it as I was ready to just swap it in. I'm certain that I can attain a good portion of my money back by selling everything but the block.

Here's a pic! All 8 cylinders have wear and a minor lip where the pistons stop but one cylinder has a 1mm gauge (grey scrape on the right) that is 3/4" long. The piston head had a diagonal crack across two layers and I'm pretty certain that is what caused the damage. Most machinists won't sleeve an aluminum block as it it too time consuming. I did find one machinist that will put in top hat sleeves but at a costly price. I'd also need new aftermarket pistons and rings. He showed me the exact same block that he did just over a week ago. He stated that these blocks are cast around aluminum sleeves when they are manufactured.

Hey Denis, what's wrong with your current timing chain cover that you need a new one?

also on this side of the water..
complete stripped M113 V8.
the block itself has become a table with bottles in it.

Thanks for the picture. The M113 block on the 4.3 and 5.4 is the same right? Dimensions

going to look but thought I saw a place that would sleeve aluminum blocks priced competively or just bore them out to whatever you want

See you are north now. I can recommend a few shops for the work, but idk about taxes and shipping. Sleeving is usually like $1000 or less plus cost of sleeves. I think worth it, but idk what your plans are. Replacing the pistons in the 55na is a no brainer and you can save on that if you sleeve so the cost is offset. I would say you head over to a local machine shop with a six pack (LOL) and see what you can do.

There's a few guys on this forum that will advertise where they had sleeving done etc, but it's way overpriced. Instead of searching out shops that work on MB engines, look for shops that work on BMW or Porsche engines, they will have correct setup.

Also, if the machine shop also labels themselves as an "engine builder" you might get a discount on having a few things done at once like heads, crank etc etc.

I have a 55na engine in pieces out in the storage that I ripped apart myself. I will not try to build it myself only because the machinist will assemble it for probably just a few dollars more after all the work is done. The big question is, well what do you do with the engine... With a few simple mods like the porting/polishing, pipes.. be at 400, or just go crazy on it. Personally, I am just up in the air about this engine. It's a Merc and **** hell expensive as high hell for gains. Dropping the 55k in a thought, nobody has shared the solution to make it run nice outside stand alone controls. It is possible to do it without stand alone but at what price. If you go outside controls then why bother with the 55k, might as well drop in a LS with manual transmission or jz2. The car isn't awd anyway so is there really a point? Bottom line is I feel the w202 needs to be done on the cheap.

I'm probably rambling at this point and this is the reason my car isn't finished yet. Nice catch on the scored cylinder tho, were you doing a simple refresh on it?

Hey Mickey. I was only planning to replace all the common parts, seals and gaskets. I started getting picky as I wanted to clean and paint so I ended up disassembling the entire motor. I'm glad that I did as the two very experienced machinists that I took the block to stated that the scraped cylinder would have sucked up a lot of oil and created serious problems. On top of that, all the cylinders had a minor lip where the pistons stopped. The rings would have kept catching on the lips and more than likely caused a disaster. It makes me very wary to purchase another motor as the maintenance history is unknown. With any engine, it's what's on the inside that matters most. I'll hopefully find another complete motor and hopefully have better luck!
