C63 calipers on c43 brakes issue
hello everyone,
i managed to install the c63 calipers on my c43 amg but i have a main issue that the brake is not performing well as i have to smash many times the brake pad before it will perform well and the pad is always low .

Some thoughts or questions for you;
How did you make the calipers fit and are they parallel to the rotor.
Are your wheel bearings setup factory spec.
Did you get all the air out and have you re-bleed after a few days.
Does the ABS unit sound like it has air in it when pedal is pressed firmly without engine running.
Is the caliper piston size to big for the master.
Have you driven long enough to let the pads bed and shape to the rotor.

Sounds like a serious and very dangerous issue. Playing with brakes can kill if you don't know what's wrong. Sorry if I sound like an old grumpy, but experience tells me that when your brakes fail you are very quickly up ****s creek without a paddle....

Dear Pagz
I have installed an adapter that help me fix the calipers plus some small modifications that led for the proper installation .
I have cleared out all the brake fluid from the car two times and still the same and the abs doesn't show any problem.
ive been driving the car for few weeks now and still the same.

It sounds like a master cylinder issue. The stock unit can't supply enough fluid at the pressure needed for a he larger calipers. Remember, you're trying to fill six pistons now which is a whole lot more area than stock.

your stock c43 master cilinder does not match up with your new cool calipers.
it's too small for your brakes
if you have new pads, new or good condition rotors, everything bolted perfectly and perfectly bleed the air out.
it's your MBC being weak

Dear Kowalski ,
Thanks for your advice do you have any idea which master cylinder i should use and if you a part number , thanks again.

I like that you calling me Sir Kowalski.
Thank you very much
I'm sorry I don't have any partsnumber.
A good thing to do is to measure the length of your stock MBC and measure one MBC from a C63 or another AMG with similar calipers for clearence issues.
Good luck

If I'm not mistaken Zayed did talk about a bigger MBC for better brake performance in a thread some time ago...

The MBC from a final year R129 SL600 has been suggested as a roughly bolt on improvement. That being said, I'm still not convinced that this is a master cylinder issue. I don't recall the guys who have swapped on CLK/SLK55 brakes having to do MC swaps and those are pretty similar to C63. Remember that there are six smaller pistons and stock is two much larger pistons. Need to know the diameter of the pistons in each scenario to do that calculation.
Edit: Also, in a sliding caliper arrangement like stock on the C43, the two pistons have to travel twice as far to cover the spacing between the pads and rotor on both sides. On a fixed caliper, like the C63, the pistons only have to travel the distance of the gap on each respective side. So it definitely is not as easy as saying 6 pistons need a larger master cylinder than 2 pistons because 6 is greater than 2.
To the OP, if you continue to experience the issue, it may be worth having either the dealer or an independent with STAR look at it. I haven't had to deal with the issue on mine, but my understanding is that if air makes it way into the ABS or traction control portion of the braking system, a computer is required to open up that portion of the circuit to be bled. That is just based on a quick search and I can neither confirm nor deny that. Please let us know when you figure it out as I was considering picking up some C63 brakes as well.

When you have to press the brakes repeatedly, is it a soft spongey feeling (pedal goes to floor) or a hard feeling (REALLY gotta mash it)?
Spongey feeling:
- Air in the lines
- Master cylinder (not up to par to handle C63 brakes)
Hard feeling:
- Brake booster (same reason as MC)
Considering you've upgraded to C63 brakes, it could be any of the 3.
