This is a generic diagnostic and testing instructions but it does go into depth on what can cause it. Hope it helps solving your problem!

Let us know if changing out the cps worked...something similar happened to me about a month ago but, I cut the car off and it started back up again with no issues...left it parked about 2 hours, no issues...went to start it up a week later and it would not crank and all power was slowly being lost in the car...i finally got a new battery yesterday, got it installed, and it started up like new...i never knew of a car falling dead while sitting at a light because of a battery...yet and still my mom's e350 would not turn over after her coming out of the store for 5 minutes and it was her battery...also fwiw, my check engine has been on for quite some time saying codes p0171 and 0174 right after having to replace my throttle...i am going to get another diagnostic on the CEL before replacing the MAF as I think it is...the screen is quite blackish when I removed the cover...

Ill definetly let you know.
I have a 2000 c280 also and I swapped my battery with that car and still no go.
The c43 batt measures 11.4x volts while the c280 measures 12.4x

Generally;-
If meter reading lower than (13.2v>>12.8v), it may have bad battery DIN starting core or engine idle is too low for the alternator to put out sufficient voltage,,
that will directly affect to the power of the DIN starting in the battery, to provide enough power to the starter solenoid..!
*prefer to check the CPS first, then see about the battery voltage..

I learned the hard way that torx headed screws are a real b*tch to work with and you need to use superior brands torx sockets only. The cheaper versions are just slightly undersized and bugger the screws big time placing you in a problem spot.
I hope you don't need to pull the engine to repair that CPS.....

Worst case the intake manifold and all the stuff behind it will have to come off which is not that bad.
I had taken off all of that in my parts car and the access to the cps was much much better.
I took a day off yesterday and did nothing so no progress.
I just hope nothing went wrong with the motor. I need to know before I start throwing money at it.

could have saved you some time and cussing if you had asked a majstor buddy to help you out with your car.
you did check most of the stuff and problems still there.
hobby mechanics can do some stuff, more difficult jobs should be done by professionals.
I hope it's a quick and cheap fix for ya!

One thing to point out.
With the original battery while turning the key over sometimes the car would sound as if its out of electricity. It does that quick *blip* as if tje battery is dead.
However it doesnt do it all the time. Swapping batteries gets rid of that and the car sounds like it wants to start but it still cant

Its all good haha. If I have the garage and tools I enjoy working on the car. I just moved into a place with a garage so I can slowly troubleshoot and do one thing at a time

it ain't fun when problems creepin' up on ya.
small prob here, a bigger prob there, keeps going on and on..........
do you hear fuel pump buzzing when you turn on ignition?
your prob is not fuel related?
did you check all your osiguraci, no-one being fried?
sometimes a problem could only be a tiny glitch somewhere not giving juice on start up??

Fuel pump does make a sound. I already cleaned the fuel injectors. Fuel filter doesnt have too much mileage in it so that should be ok.
Im narrowing it down to either a cps, coil/plug/wire issue or vacum leak somewhere.
If all that fails then im removing the whole exhaust and replacingit with the one from my parts car.

Would that cause the car to die while driving?
Remember the issue occured while the car was running and the result is multiple missfires. Wether its preventive missfire or real missfires I dont know yet

i don't know if your car died related to bad key and if you have a worn ignition?
you have to rule out everything to find your problem.
your car doesn't krank now, it only gets power on ignition.
you did get a new chrome key from stealership am I right?
new chrome key does NOT always work properly with your ignition if ignition is worn!?!?
kar won't always krank with new chrome key if ignition is worn!
you have to remove key, insert key again then try to start, sometimes you have to repeat procedure 2-3 times for kar to krank by inserting key and removing key if kar doesn't start on 1st try.
the old style key works much better wheter or not EIS is worn, here the new chrome key pusi kurac compared to old key in funktionality!
did you try to start your car with the old style key?
if you can't find the problem, ask for help from your best majstor buddy, if you still have problems put your car on a trailer take it to a specialist
