I prefer the OE lenses. Perhaps a change to LED bulbs could be a decent upgrade?

The only LED tails I would've tried were the ones that LawRens had. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure TunerBits is no longer in business. I will probably just install led bulbs if I ever feel like spending over $100 on tail light LEDs..

I guess it might be "worth it" considering new led tails cost near or over $200.
you can get the lights LawRens had HERE they are special order though. i am thinking about ordering them.
i actually found the very last pair of THESE in the UK, picked them up on Amazon UK total was $219 with priority shipping. which are also available by special order from HERE. but this particular style i believe is rebranded by a few companies so you might also have luck HERE. this style also seems to be made in germany and is tuv compliant with no obd errors, but would still require additional bulbs if i wanted it all led (reverse and turn)
i think the difference between the aftermarket and stock is that you get a strip of small led on the bottom and possiblly a triangle on the top. but yeah you could replace the bulbs on the OEM for a minor refresh.
idk if it will cost you $100 just for bulbs, i'd guess less if you bought from china. i just bought an interior/license plate led kit from china. total was $14 and it came with about 10 extra bulbs, granted it was shy 1 dome light but seller is going to make that right. it probably costs them about .03 to make one.
tunerbits seems to be in business on amazon, could always email to check availability as well

side note:
i've been thinking about running tubing down to the fog light openings for intake and found this very cool fog light to replace the two existing ones.

Hi Mickey. Here's the link of when I had MHW black tails on my car. They are #10 on the mercwheels link. Check posts#9, 20 & 21. I loved them at first but quickly grew tired of them and sold them. Originally Posted by mickey13

Hi Z. They're projector headlights made by Option Racing. They weren't dot approved and they stated for off road/show use only. One was destroyed when someone hit me in a roundabout. I tried to re order another set but at the time they were no longer available and I was told they were discontinued. I just checked and they appear to be still available. Having said that, at that time I ordered them from 3 different online vendors only to have them notify me that they were no longer available. Here's the link...Originally Posted by cm60k

I have been debating the tail lights myself, for my Merc I am going to be going old school and doing amber corners, clear headlights, and amber/ euro tail.Originally Posted by nkctb7

i got them and put them in but i damaged the first one on install because there are so many wires inside the lens so when i tightened it up i must have shorted some wires (i was really squeezing it in). these were the last pair and shipped from the UK so instead of the return process, i started unwrapping around half the wires and found a short, i could see they were pressed together from me. i taped the wires and i also pulled out two converters/resistors out of the housing and let them hang on the backside, that really cleared up the housing for space to close. but theres another short because i hit a bump and it went out again.
so i'll pull it tomorrow and go over all of the wires. here are some pictures after i straightened the first short.
Also, after the install and solving the first short, my "mystery" light out dash warning that i've had for more than a year went away. WOW. She likes the new lights. Funny because I replaced the electrical housing on the side where the bulb was out and it didnt solve it.
will follow up tomorrow after i disassemble this thing again.
fit and finish was pretty good. i felt like fit was a bit better on the passenger side, it didnt take much to adjust it and it looked good. fit on the drivers side took more time and just didnt look as perfect, but with some fiddling it turned out OK.
