thinking about buying a C36

hey guys,

The dealer I go to now is a independent one and have lots of MB's for sale. They have this one C36 on the lot for a while now that no one wants to buy :p

Everytime I go in for service, I go check it out, lol. I've been thinking about it for a while. Here's the info on it:

1995 C36
62,000 miles
Black/Black
Excellent Condition from the looks
Asking Price: $19,900

What is a fair price for this? I mean, I've seen 98/99 C43's with just a tad more miles for the same price...they're newer, more powerful, etc. They knocked the price down from 21,900 a few months ago. It was driven by the owner's son, had the 60k service done before put on the lot.

Thanks for the help!

ooh...here's a link:

I'd get a C43 if the price is not that far off.

BTW, what happen to the stock mono II's?

19900 is definetaly steep. But its through dealer obviously. A private sale on that car I dont think you would get much more than 16000 for it. Make an offer ,I'm sure they are tired of keeping it clean by now.

1996 C36
In regards to the price, at first pass it does seem a bit steep. But before you automactically pass on the car, I believe, you need to consider all the variables. For me the right color would warrant a premium as well as location. The C36 was not made in large numbers and chasing a car all over the country as well as shipping it home will easily "eat up" a $2-3K cost premium. Let's not forget about the time involved in these searches. I personally wanted a silver car and I wanted a C36 as I commute 80 miles a day and I wanted a six cylinder vs the eight of the C43. I found a local 96 C36 for sale which fit my specifications and had a year remaining on a Starmark Warranty. Many if not all here would say I paid to much...but there is a value of a local car that fits whatever specification of color, mileage and condition that you may have. True that C43's on eBay go for a very good price ($16-18K) but do digital pictures really detail condition? For me I just don't have the time to fly to Chicago or Tampa to see a car and I will not buy a car sight unseen. Turns out my seat heaters were not working....can we say $4000 repair at the dealer? Luckily I had the warranty whcih I paid a "premium" for.

i'm still considering it even though it has a steeper price. i'm sure it can be negotiated for the year and mileage on it. They just dropped it 2 grand about a month and a half ago cuz it has been sitting there for a while, but moved every few days. So it's not like it's just been sitting there for months on end.

next time i'm in for service, which is soon, i'm going to ask the details on the car, price, lowest they can go, warranty from the dealer, etc. I know they're reputable at repairing and maintaining MB's...so the dealer is not a question of concern. It was the owner of the dealer's car...so I'm guessing it's been taken care well, as he has a passion for MB's :p

ummm hello..did you ask why the stock mono II's aren't on the car? What else has been 'replaced' on the car?

Look at the photo, the rear and front wheel look like the same size..should be staggered.
