C36 amg - ride/drive feel (heavy), but such a beauty
i'm quite new and just bought a 97 c36 amg in vancouver, canada. Just loved the looks of the car. i've driven a lot of cars mostly on standard transmission (e46 m3, e46 330ci, civic sir, 240sx). This c36 amg is my first auto big purchase.
One question i'm having is that the car feels so heavy that even when you put an auto in neutral, car doesn't feel like it's coasting/gliding... i'm thinking it's just because of the monstrous weight? Further, when even coasting in gear, it just feels the car is slowing down too much and not gliding. Do all c36 amgs do that? I'm thinking it should glide especially when your going downhill with the weight.. sorry for such silly question and thanks for your help/thoughts. Or it may be something else? The feeling i'm trying to say (although ironic) is that it feels like a big powerful bus...!! Thx so much again for your help/thoughts!

but i saved one in my album! Thanks for the intro to forum!Yes, for sure no coasting in auto.. bad habit..
But the car even on drive when it supposed to coast, still feels like a bus... a powerful one! Slows down too much..
It's probably just this car, or ... all c36 amgs? It's obvious i didn't own a c36 before but such a beautiful car
Thanks so much!

buy yourself a can of MAF cleaner (or if you cant find it, then try electrical cleaner), clean up the MAF really good. Give your airbox and airfilters a cleaning too and if that solves your problem then you know you'll need a new MAF soon.
Bad MAF will make your car sluggish and also behave badly in all other types of ways too.

If you change the MAF go only for a Bosch part. Don't go for a cheap e-bay one as it will be a 99% rip-off. The Bosch or one obtained with the dealer will be more expensive, but you will have the peace of mind that it will work properly

It should coast just fine (when you decide to ignore that its bad for the auto).
Perhaps you can find a MB mechanic near you that is willing to test drive the car with you and do a good maintenance check. It should drive pretty beautifull I prefered the C36 over my friends 330CI (few years back). My car was riding on Vogtland springs and yellow Koni's (highly recommend this setup).

Sure, its pointless to do, but it wont damage anything. Id be interested to see factual evidence to prove otherwise...
The car should not feel like that, i would suggest you check a few items, starting with brakes to ensure there is no drag, check park brake is fully off when released, and check front caliper slides to be sure they are not sticking or gummed up.
That is what id consider the most likely cause.

Where did you have the KONIs set to? I found that combo rediculously stiff.

Roads here are not that great, but yeah, with 1.5 turns from full soft and Vogtland springs it was unbearable.
(1)
Important !
Coasting the vehicle, or driving for any other reason with the selector lever in "N" can result in transmission damage that is not covered by the Mercedes-Benz Limited Warranty.
(2)
Do not engage "N" while driving except to coast when the vehicle is in danger of skidding (e.g. on icy roads, see Winter driving Instructions in Index).
