I have had fast flow filters both K&N and now Green for years on nearly all my vehicles with never a problem. The secret is to apply a very thin spray of oil after having cleaned them. Over oiling will indeed kill the MAF. Clean them at least x1 year regardless of distance driven. If you live in a sandy desert type area, then a more regular cleaning would be a good idea.
The OEM filters do the job perfectly but the fast flow ones will give you a touch more intake noise. With the big air-box it is very much more noticeable

IMO;-
not recommended to go with oily filters,
we have very sensitive MAF film, that will affected during hot oil sneaks there,,
moreover; when oil mixed with dust & Humidity, the vent rooms will clogged, that will definitely causes bad reflect to the air inlet & density..!!?!?!

There is no power advantage, however there is a disadvantage in that the filtering is not as fine, and dust will go through.
The K&N is fine for a pre-filter ( not that youd use one on a road car ) , but there is no need for it as a primary filter.

It's 8cm thick at the air-box exit over the MAF. So that's 3.1496 inches so it's not the 4" one. It could be that the 4" we here was a prototype and a bit too high to fit without rubbing. I believe George cleared this question when answering one of Kowalski's multiple queries...

i have K&N filters in my C43 and CLK55. been 4 years in the C43 now, and cleaned 2x i think, no issues at all. only 1 year in the CLK55, haven't cleaned yet (i only drive the cars in the warm season and 5000 miles or less a year so not much use.
i have no idea how people have problems with K&N, im guessing a few people just greatly over oiled them when cleaning??

All my modded air boxes are about the same size. Maybe 1/4 inch difference from each one. I only made ONE lower than the rest. I have a version 2 air box now. Made the first one for pjmack which he should receive today or tomorrow.

• What makes Green Filter oil different from other brands?
Green High Performance Air Filters come pretreated with a specially formulated dirt-trapping oil. Our proprietary lightweight, synthetic Green Filter oil is designed to not damage any vehicle sensors.
This oil creates a positive (+) magnetic charge, or ionic bond, with the filter's stainless steel mesh. The positive charge attracts the negatively (-) charged dust particles entering the filter, causing them to cling to the steel mesh and allowing the cotton to remain clear for maximum air flow.
Green Filter oil also contains a swelling additive for the cotton filtration media. This causes the cotton fibers to swell, which allows the filtration media to collect the very small dirt particles (down to 5 microns) that could otherwise harm your engine.
