Unfortunate PJ, that looks a very very good buy!. Red is sooo rare , seats look like it has covered the mileage stated.
I sold a high miles C43 recently with no history, that thing ran stronger and had less faults/engine noise than my first low miles with full history. These are at the age where you need to do view and test every one to be sure of its condition.

PJ, you’re probably better off as there’s no history on it and that is a major red flag! No pun intended! What are the five title wash states in the US? Meaning that a car can be sent to a title wash state and have a clean title even though it is a salvage and or rebuilt.

This car moved from left coast to right coast and is currently getting restored including sanding and a "windows out" repaint in the Imperial Red color and an acrylic clear coat. All exterior hard bits (i.e. handles, nozzles, window trim, etc.) are being replaced with new OEM parts.
This is a one owner car which lived in the Pacific Northwest before moving to Northern California. The 55K miles on the odometer are correct and there is no evidence of accidents. The shop handling the repaint indicate there is no rust anywhere on this example.
Interior wise, the car exhibits the cracking on the wood but no wear anywhere else on the interior except the parcel shelf which is being replaced.. The radio is going back to Becker to be serviced and get a new Radio Card to go along with the manuals in the owner's pouch.
When this car is complete, it will look and be original as it did when it rolled off the assembly line (except with 18" Monoblocks, Euro headlights, and W202 late model taillights).

I’ll try to post pictures from time to time as it gets brought back. Here are some shots in reverse chronological order (oldest at the bottom).
The shop is intending of keeping the VIN sticker which sits behind the license plate.
Paint was not in any condition to be restored.

Bumpers, rocker panels, and cladding are now complete. Interestingly enough, Mercedes sells a repair kit for the rocker panels which contains the double-sided tape originally used on the top side of the rockers to secure them to the body.

Very nice! Awesome to see another C36 saved from extinction! Hard to tell In the pics but, did you remove the drip mouldings, window trim and rear quarter windows? I only ask as I disassembled my entire car myself, when I had it painted.

Yes. The drip molding and door window strips have been removed and will be replaced with new. The rear quarter windows were removed. We determined the rear windshield has never been pulled so the weatherstripping has been removed and they will tape off the rear windshield when they paint. Of course it would have been easier to pull it in order to put in the new parcel shelf but why fix something that is not broken?
