The plan is to keep it. I feel that this has MB historical significance being the first AMG model prodiuced and sold by Mercedes. While there would be others which are more powerful, have fewer doors, and possibly better looking, I've discovered I'm drawn to Bruno Sacco's lines.

Car continues to progress. Shocks have been revalved by Bilstein. 18” Monoblocks are not on nor are the late W202 tails.
Parcel shelf is having the holes cut for the 3rd brake light and speaker grilles. Actually, new grilles will be ordered and put in.

it's definitely a nice piece of MB history. I wonder when this class will jump like the older ones did. classic cars and all. maybe it will be when MB stops making gasoline powered cars.

There are quite a few variations compared to the ‘96 & 97’s. It starts w/ the braking system (larger directional rotors).. Tough to source and downright costly! The engine harness is the part that caught me off guard. My car is an early build which utilizes a different harness; luckily there were two replacements left in Germany when my original completely fried.

The first year of the 3 year run these had were unique to later years. Of course, the directional brakes mentioned above as well as each year had a different upper wiring harness (and no compatibility). The radio was Becker in the first year and then switched to Bose for the last 2. As I understand it, the first year had ASR as optional but in later years it was standard.

I believe the value of this model will jump when the car paradigm shifts. As I mentioned earlier, there is a point in time where most MB and other cars manufacturers jumped in value, in fact it has happened a few times, for example when car design changed from big boxy fin tail to rectangular, big chrome bumpers to color molded bumpers, etc. I believe a big shift is coming as they begin to phase out gasoline vehicles. first model runs like the c36 and I'd also guess those big beautiful v12 gas guzzlers, any car with a luxury tax.
i read an article that says Tesla s with autopilot has consistently outsold all other luxury cars even MB s class. Numbers don't lie.

Super bad ***. What's the difference from late model taillights anyways?

New Euro headlights with city bulb to light the fixture and amber indicators are now on. The grille also has an updated design which I like. It was painted satin black to match the door handles (not sure why MB had this dark gray with all other bits in black).

Its awesome to see this work! I have the first gen C36 also(code 804)in red, no asr. it is super cool.
Something I noticed with the tail lights and possibly 3rd light, they are special to the sports models back then and hard to get, I have a small mountain of the updated tinted lights but haven't swapped because I feel the originals suit the red better!
Look forward to seeing some more photos!. =)

Can you share some photos highlighting the differences?
Thanks!

Speaker grilles are in from Germany along with the tow hook straps. I always assumed that the parcel shelf came pre-cut for these but it does not. This new one is about ready to go into place.
BTW, the old one is at the top of the picture in purple courtesy of the sun).

Looking good!,Unfortunately yes have to recut the speakers, If you look on underside shelf there is very faint markings showing where to cut speaker grilles!
Also, Here is a photo of the two sports type rear lights. Initially, I thought the older ones here were unique(still might be) as took the part numbers from the C36 ones and compared to EPC, but they did not show up there .. its possible they are a very early part number and it just updates to common early 202 sports version. If your going for original looks then I be tempted to keep the older style with the red body.
Although hard to see in the photo the 3rd brake light matches in colour, the later ones are darker to match also.

Thanks!
I've got both types of taillights. In the US, the early W202 (C36) had the design you have on your Signal Red one where the reverse light part of the lens is not smoked. Later W202 (C43, C230/C280 Sport) had the taillights of the black one pictured where the entire middle layer between the red parts is smoked.
