Issue w/ headlight switch

Hey Guys,

The headlight switch on my ‘95 C36 is acting up. I cannot get it to stay in the position that keeps the fog lights on.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I’m not sure if I need to replace the switch or if there is a fix for it?? Any insight would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Rob

Sure thing, so if I try and set it to position 3 the switch will not stay in place and simply bounces back. I can hold it in position 3 to get the fog lights on, but the switch cannot maintain that position unless it’s being held in place.

This is a first for me, I owned a few MBs from this era in the past. I’m pretty sure the switch will need to be replaced. I was curious if any of you guys experienced this problem in the past; it appears not so far. My safety inspection is due next month and would most likely fail because of this. The annual safety inspections in NOVA makes one realize how the time flies!!

Cheers,

Rob

I wanted to provide an update if it helps someone down the road. I stumbled across a post that details my exact problem, it sounds like there is a plastic seal inside the switch that wears out over time:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w202...t-staying.html

I’m unsure if I can source the plastic seal, but I plan on taking the switch apart to see if I can maybe work some magic on it. I appreciate the help!

Cheers,

Rob

Lol. What?
I have 1 taillight on my car that is shorted out somewhere. I thought it might have been the headlight switch. I picked up one from a yard for 15. It wasn't the switch. New ones are cheap too. PJ said he had one for you.

I'd even send you the one I have for free if I knew where it was but I'm sure PJ will let you have his for a few bucks.

Thanks Mickey! I plan on buying one off eBay or from AutohausAZ. I wonder if they could fail me for the safety inspection and the lights work if you hold the switch in place. I tend to use my fogs quite a bit which is why that seal is prob worn out.

Thanks again,

Rob

What part of the world do you live in? Here in NJ they only test emissions nothing else.

I'll look around for that switch. When is your inspection?

Please do not get me started, I reside in NOVA. Safety inspection annually and emissions biennially. MD from what I hear requires a safety inspection at the time of purchase. I must admit though I see some cars out here w/ MD plates that appear to be far from roadworthy. A catch-22 at the end of the day.

The inspection is due in Jan, but the car is ok in my driveway even if the sticker expires. I plan on replacing it in the next week or two. Don’t worry about the switch! I appreciate the offer, I plan to order one off eBay. Thx!!

I plan to opt for a new switch. I’m sure we can agree it gets a lot of use and worthy of a fresh replacement.

Thanks again!

Thanks man

If wer talking about the headlight switch, they are kinda hard to remove. Mine is in perfect shape and has less than 70k on it.

OP, If you dont have luck finding one let me know
