1999 C43
Motor Swap
Thinking I might want to replace the motor in my C43 with a 5.4 out of a 2003 CLK if I could find a low milage one at a reasonable price. Reason for that particular motor is its a 'evo' class motor upgraded to 362 HP. Does anyone have experience with this motor? I would think it would bolt in fine but there could be engine management issues.
Any comments ?

Motor will bolt in fine, no ems problems because you use c43 harness but the oil pump must be modified. stock clk55 pump or c43 pump will not work!

As i remember; the trick with "snorkel" only,,
put C43 snorkel into Clk55 pump, will do the job,
or modified the tube to inward directional,,
it's kinda optional, isn't..?..

w209 pump is different, please see my photos on the sticky thread. Neither pump will work as stock. I modified w209 pump. The pickup needs to be extended by 2 inches and 2nd pickup must be capped

As i know; there're (2) types of 03-06 "N/A M113" oil pumps:-
*"113 180 26 01", only snorkel need to be changed.
*"113 180 28 01", modified the oil cir. tube.

oil pump on this motor is 1131811301, c43 pickup will not fit pump!

all these #s are factory base line #s,,
the new #s are "113 180 26 01" & "113 180 28 01"..

What is it that gives the motor from the w209 and w203 chassis more power?
I thought this was solely dependent on the ecu tune the car is running???
A custom tune will easily get my 350hp ml55 motor to those numbers
For all you know, that motor will make less when hooked up to the stock c43 ecu...

good question for the w208/w209 forums. i asked it a while back and nobody could seem to answer if i remember correctly. both engines have the same displacement (volume) so they should have the same power output. cams, and valves can change the profile of the engine but not the volumetric displacement. amg tends to beef up hp/torque with intake/exhaust. i believe that the ev engine shifts the powerband. i brought it up before here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...ml#post6990565
Ausmbtech was familiar with the evo design and gave a pretty clear explanation in that thread as well.
