Cleaning windscreen storm drains

As per title, I don't know if one should call them storm drains, but I like the word

As the weather is ****ty these days with rain and coolish temperatures, I decided to work in the garage and check the water drain on the passenger side close to the fire wall. I have not had any issues with water ingress but better be preventive than reactive IMO

I removed all the lower windscreen trimmings so as to open all the area under the wiper and cabin air intake (see 1st photo). All the parts were then washed with some soapy water and a soft brush.

Looking down into the corner of the cavity, there was some small leaves and debris (2nd photo). That was quickly vacuumed out. Then onto the rubber drain with a flap on the outside to check it was dirt free. How to poke around down there? Easy, took my flexible transmission dip stick and pushed it in and out a couple of times to make sure all is clean (3rd photo). Perfect.

Reassemble everything making sure all the trimmings are clipped and screwed down, job done. BTW when you are doing this, why not consider removing the turtle cover from the wiper arm and lubricate with water proof grease. Job done

All the trimmings removed, then washed in soapy water before reassembling.

Some small debris and nothing major. The drain hole can be seen in the lower right of the trough. Guess that speaks for having the vehicle in a closed garage and not parked under trees

Transmission dip stick. Perfect poking tool. Just make sure you clean it before inserting in your transmission

Good job. I removed the Flap on my black c43. In Chicago there are to many debris and such that water always got trapped because the Flap was blocked. Removed it and cleaned the hole and 3 years later no problems at all. Before removing the Flap water went into cabin floor and shorted out sensor under seat.

Did you pull all tabs on the wall sides to lift the covers off to access the compartment from above?

If you are talking of the holding clips along the edge of the cover on both sides like in the image below, yes I did. Gently prise them forward with your finger or flat head screwdriver to de-clip them.

Good work. This is on my long to do list for my car.

Btw the windshield wiper covers and whole arm are fairrly inexpencive new. Im considering ordering since its nearly impossible to clean the old stuff to perfection

Yes that's what I meant you had to pull the clips to remove both L - R side top covers to access debris in the box.
I forgot to ask, did you also have to remove the long rubber weather seal that goes from end to end when you removed the top covers?

No, but it helps to lift off the central part of the weather strip for easier access to the two partially hidden inner clips/tabs on both sides
