Wheel Advice

Hey guys, the local shop wants too much money to refurb my rashed 17" Monoblocks so I plan on getting 18" wheels. 8.5" up front and 9.5" in rear. Offset would be +35 all around. *NOTE* Car has been lowered on Vogtland springs and stock pads.

Can I run a 18"x 9.5" in the rear without rubbing? Or should I stick to 8.5" front and rear? Will that offset work still going up to 18"?

Finally, who are you using to host pictures so I can upload some photos to this site?

I had SL73 2 piece 18 inch monoblocks on mine when I bought it. They're 10" wide in the rear and didn't rub.

Don't get rid of your original monoblocks; they'll come in handy some day.

18's ET35 in 9 & a half is no problem for your car for rear wheels.
Fronts should be 8.5 to avoid fitting issues.

Make sure you put thicker pads on rear springs if you do heavy cargo or drive people in the back?
#3 or #4 in the back should work and use the thinnest up front, you should get a raked stance

Not a chance! But I'll need to take both rear wheels off the car and remove tires to get all the rash sanded out (btw, not done by me!)

When I was confronted with the same decision, that's when I went out and found a set of 18" E55 monoblocks that needed refurbishment and spent the money on those instead. They were $150 a wheel to have redone including recoating the centers and re-machining the lips as a data point.

Yes the 18" offset Monos from a E55 fit perfectly. Sizes are 8J ET 31 with 225/40 on the front and 9J ET 35 with 255/35 on the rear.

I'm definitely looking at going with 18" E55 monoblocks as well. My local wheel repair guy (the only 1 in town) said my stock 17"s would take $300-$400/wheel to refurb and 3-4 weeks. At that price, I feel that I could make the jump to 18"'s for looks as well.

Yeah, that is a crazy price. If possible, I would contact the local MB/BMW/Porsche shop and see who they use. No way they are paying that much for wheel repair. I live in one of the most expensive areas in the country and it was still only $150 to have my Tesla wheel redone when I bent it.

I couldn't agree more. Trouble is, they are the only game in town!

For that price, you could easily ship your wheels elsewhere to be redone. I know you're also looking at new wheels, so perhaps go that route for now and store your Monoblocks for the time being.

Thats a ripoff

Most places charge 150/wheel for complete refinish including curb rash and minor bends.
