Wheel Locking When Turning

My 98 c43 has this problem when I turned right at the light the tire locked up on me. Pretty scary, did it twice. I tried to duplicate it once I was in a safe area and it won't do it anymore.

But it can start at any time. Anyone ok now why this is happening? Sometimes my abs esp and bas lights come on at any given time. They go off once car gets restarted.

Do I need sensors? And can I disconnect the sensors so the wheels won't Lock anymore? At least till I buy new sensors..

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks. You mean to disconnect so wheel won't lock again? Or to replace that? Or both perhaps?

I unplugged that sensor. Seems so far like the car is driving normal now. My friend took the car to test it and he felt as if the front tire locked. And he said while he was driving straight the esp light kept flashing as of the road was slippery. But road is dry.

Crazy thing is that I plugged the sensor back and drove the car and nothing happened. Don't want to take a chance so I unplugged it again. Hope it's safe to drive the car with the sensor unplugged??

Besides dealer anyone know where to buy this new?

Pj didn't it bother you that the used one will get bad too at ANY time? I mean the wheel locks so hard that the tire burns rubber. Imagine that happening turning on a light and it's cold out and slippery. Car would spin out bad.

How can this happen on a mercedes? How has this not been reported in this forum? We must be the only two owners this has happened to

Daniel, you think you can check for me and find the part numbers for the abs wheel speed sensors? I believe each wheel has one but not to sure?

I searched and could not find an exact answer on how many there are on our car...

Hi George,
Sorry for the late reply. It took me forever to find something which I hope is what you are looking for. What perhaps got me on the right track was when PJ mentioned a "sensor" in the trunk. Attached .pdf file contains diagram and parts list #s. The different sensors are # 155, 158 and 161 on both diagram and parts lists

Hope this helps.

Thanks Daniel this pdf helps with the sensors I also wanted to buy. But the sensors part numbers are the wheel speed sensors that are attached to each wheel hub. There's the wheel speed sensor that goes in the wheel hub. And the other to the brake pad sensor.

But it's ok Im just going to remove each one and clean them. I did one side already. The driver side the small bolts got stripped. Now I have to remove them somehow and than go buy new bolts.

Will need that plastic wire holder as well because going to need a torch to heat those bolts.
