Hello everyone I have a 98 c43 that iam in love with I acquired it from someone who neglected the car long story short I got it running and it gave me 2 awesome drives before something broke in the transmission so she's been sitting for a month after I took the pan down and found chuncks of metal so I sealed it back up and im trying to get as much informationfor on this car as I can.. I'm under the impression it has a 722.631 transmission has anyone put any other versions in and had success? I've considered selling the car as I need the space but i don't wanna get rid of it so if someone is possibly interested or knows someone interested I can give more details and provide pictures. Thanks for any help

C43's build from mid 97 and 98 had weak 631 trannies, perhaps they were improved on 99?
Final build cars sold as 00 had the best trannies comes with tiptronic.
You could find a used 636 but you have to mod it a bit to make it work with park function

But I think there are a lot more 722.6 transmissions out there that are direct bolt-in. The engine only had 300hp, so it's not like a super beefy version of the 722.6 is required. Start looking for a used one from a 98-98 MB sedan and see what you can find.
Everyone told me that when i put an E55 motor in my car I would also need an E55 transmission, but thankfully CM_60k here has proven that the transmissions are the same.
Op if you want to rebuild your Trans I can get part numbers and instructions for you. Used Trans are like 300 from a junkyard. Or if you want to sell it I'm sure plenty of guys here will buy it

Just saw that you have a 98' C43. Those unfortunately did have transmissions failures but the later 99' were upgraded. Mine which is a 99' has 315k km and the transmission is in very good shape. You just need to keep up with the ATFoil and filter changes using the appropriate and recommended ATF liquid for the transmission.
I would DEFINITELY save this vehicle. The transmission can be rebuilt and upgraded at the same time. That's the way I would go specially if the body doesn't have any major rust problems. The value of the 43 is going to go up I'm 100% sure coz the small number produced. That's the reason I still have mine.

I would also point out that the 722 transmission also made it into a lot of the Dodge Chargers, Chrysler 300's etc. I'm not suggesting that transmissions from those would bolt in, but that shops that are experienced working on the Dodge/Chrysler transmissions would find yours to be very familiar.
722.6 are in a lot of vehicles. But if you want to stay specifically to the C43 variant of the trans, the SL600s, E55, and CLK430/55s of that era should be an exact match.
