Sure! I actually just fixed one and had it out. On these black plastic Gen 2 keys MB made a silly choice, there are IR chips on top and bottom. I imagine one is emitter and one is detector. One is white, the other black. They are centered and at the tip. And very easily broken off.

When first Chrome key came out they used a single IR chip so it is more robust.

The EIS chip that powers the key is the copper wound coil, also at tip, just to right of black IR chip.

This is why telling people that keys can require good batteries to start car is so dangerous. If this PCB comes out it is very easy to knock any of those three chips off. Will still have RF but taking any of those 3 off will break the EIS start chat.

Update: Got the car back from paint

Finally got the call today that the car has been painted and ready for pick up. First impressions of the paint work is that they did an awesome job. He did tell
me to assemble the car and if I noticed any imperfections to drop it back off and he will take care of it.

They did a good job preparing the car beforehand and the panels are all laser straight. The paint has a nice subtle metallic which would be obvious under direct sun light.

they still have to paint the bumpers and small pieces so maybe by next week they will be done.

I snapped a few quick photos. More to come as I get the rest of the parts and put it together.

After the paint dries fully (couple of weeks) I would strongly recommend you doing a ceramic coating to protect the shine

Yeah, the paint still feels very soft. So I’ve put it in the garage and covered it up. I’ll definitely put a good ceramic coating on there.

Yeah, it’s dried enough not to stick. Just feels soft like it has ppf over it.

I was able to put on the wheels finally.

Here are some more pictures

@PJmak I ended up paying $6,500 for the paint job. He did a great job. I do have to take it back for a few spots that need some additional buffing. But overall I’m very happy.

The color looks amazing compared to ordinary jet black.

I’m picking up the rest of the parts today.

so finally got the bumpers and trim back. Put on the bumpers at the body shop to bring the car home. Still need to remove the front bumper to put on fog lights.

Thank you. I’m really pleased with the way the wheels make the car look as well. They look much better in person.

The car was with the body shop about 3 months. I let them take their time. They are located in Newark, Ca.

Looks great, but still not convinced with the choice of wheels. Some 18" Monos would be more period correct IMO, but I guess each to his own

Those wheels are a fantastic departure from mono blocks everybody goes with.

Thanks for the replies. I believe I made the right choice with the wheels. They truly look much more amazing in person. Every other C43 out there is on monoblocks and this is unique.

Not to say that monoblocks don’t look nice. We have another C43 in the family with 18” monoblocks on there so I wanted to be different.

I am considering reaching out to the shop that did your car? Are you happy with the finish? Have you inspected it up close?

Also, are they able to apply extra clear coat and do a buff and cut? What kind of paint did they use?

I’m happy with the work. As he explained with the buff and cut process that they usually aren’t able to get everything out in one go. So I’ve taped up the areas that need additional attention. I’m dropping it back off Friday to have them cut and buff those areas I found. That’s why I didn’t put back the door seals or drivers door handle yet.

The quality of the paint is good. There’s no orange peel except where it needs some more cut and buff. Mostly at the edges. The paint is smooth and factory like.

I’ll update better pictures of the final
result this weekend. If your ever in the Bay Area, your more than welcome to see the car up close.

Wish private lounge held events. They were so nice.

I’ll find out what brand paint he used. He did mention he doesn’t use cheap materials because usually it doesn’t result well.
