@PJmak they really are putting the money and love into that car. I’ve read some threads of manual swap. I think the biggest challenge would be the driveshaft.

I had arranged to have the car picked up by a tow company at 4pm and they flaked on me. Didn’t bother to call or text. Luckily someone else we knew was able to come tow it at 7pm for a short 2 mile distance.

So the the car is finally at a buddy’s shop on the hoist. Tomorrow the work will begin and the engine will be removed.

I’ll have to swap over some parts like the intake, harness, engine mounts then back into the car.

had to remove the front bumper for the tow.

I’d be interested to do the manual swap. I think the most challenging piece may be the driveshaft.

That’s nice. I was thinking of doing it myself. But that’s something I’ll consider down the road

I didn't have them quote anything on the C43. It was some stuff on my Eurovan, but not a full respray on that either. My friend had taken a JCW front and rear fascia in for them to paint and paid a couple hundred. Granted, they just had to prep and spray it, no masking or body work.

I ran into a problem guys. Installed the motor, running good. My battery was bad so the car was in neutral with the battery disconnected I removed the key after putting the car in park.

upon installing a new battery the key won’t turn in the ignition.

hoping it’s not the EIS.

any advice?

I had this problem in my first c43 after a dead battery. I had to leave the key in the ignition over night. That worked for ME, worth a try. You can also try this before leaving the key on the ignition over night. Disconnect the negative cable on the battery and wait 10 minutes. Try key again….

Also found this you can try if you haven’t already. Some say has nothing to do with the problem others say different, worth a try. There are two main scenarios that could cause your key to be unable to turn in the ignition. These are:
  1. Your key fob battery is low or empty. This prevents the Electronic Ignition System (EIS) from functioning.
  2. The Driver Authorization System (DAS) is not functioning, and thus failing to verify the key properly when inserted into the ignition.

fortunately I left the key in the ignition over night. So I’m hoping and praying that it worked and the car cycled and recognized the key.

I appreciate your advice my friend.

Thanks my friend! Hoping the car recognized the key. Otherwise I will try changing the key fob battery. It does lock and unlock the car.

keeping my fingers crossed.

No luck unfortunately. Guessing the EIS is affected. I saw a few places that rebuild. But I’ll have to do some
More research to understand the problem

what a crap out.

Unfortunately I do not. I was doing some research that it might have fried the key. But then again the key functions to lock and unlock the doors and trunk. I need to have the car scanned with Star or Xentry to see if it’s the key or EIS.

Dealer sure rips off for key too. I think it’s like $500 now.

Sorry to hear that , weird that the EIS got messed up.
Hopefully you got that c43 at a great price.

I did get the car for a good deal. Still trying to figure out the issue. Will be contacting some people tomorrow and try to get the car scanned.

Wish me luck

Key is probably dead. I wouldnt jump to conclusions with the ignition switch. WHen my key died, it wouldnt start the car but it was lockingad unlocking things too.

If you have a valet key, try starting the car with that.

Yeah, I had similar issues and ended up buying a new key from the dealer. It wasn't cheap, but it fixed the issue. I did have a valet key, which helped confirm that the issue was with the key and not the car.
