Hello all, thanks for your responses on my previous post. I have found a 1998 C43 AMG with 79K from a wholesaler willing to sell it to me for $16,500. It is white with black interior, seems to be in very good shape, it drove wonderfully. what do you guys think about this price and are there any problems or concerns with this particular model? I have to make a decision on the car in the next 2 days so please post if you have an opinion or some advice for me, thanks in advance hope to hear from all of you.

That price sounds pretty gd.Any service records? If you buy it make sure you service the transmission even if someone says you do not have to.The tranny can be an issue if you don't service it regularly like I do mine.
Thanks C43M3, no i didnt ask the guy for any service records but i will, when do you have to service the tranny, by service do you mean change the fluid and filter or is it something else. How regularly do you do it? any other issues with the car? What kind of gas milage do you get? thanks again

The best money you can spend is to have a thorough PPI done. Good luck

PPI = Pre-Purchase Inspection. They will go over the entire car and let you know what is needed, if anything.Originally Posted by AMGRebel
Thanks chappy, whats a PPI? Is this some kind of inspection?
Get service records as well, if available. BTW, your gas mileage will suffer if driven properly
Good luck.
Chappy, what do you mean my gas milage will suffer if driven properly? and let me know if you think this is a good price for the year and milage, thanks

Foot on the gas "all the time" = less mpg. For a point of reference, your should get 18-20mpg around town. 25+ on the highway. As for the price, it depends on your area and most importantly the condition. Wait until after the PPI is done before final decision. For price levels, check autotrader to see what similar vehicles are listed for in your area.
Good luck!

I know people will differ with me on this but I follow Speedybenz advise. He changes his pretty often,so I change mine as often as I feel.Every 3 months if I feel but thats just me.Most people don't change it at all which is dumb! Or some just wait for say 45,000 mile intervals.Originally Posted by AMGRebel

Thanks for the comments guys, yeah i have look on autotrader, cars.com, ebay, and this is cheaper by far it seemed to be in very good condition.
The reason I think im getting a deal on this car is that this guy buys wholesale and sells to dealers. Now he is willing to sell me this car at $16,500 that same price he is selling it to a local luxury dealer here, This will be at least 21K at the dealer, plus he is willing to save me on taxes since he has connections, put that he sold it for less to me. Do you think this is a good deal? money wise?
One thing that concerns me is the high milage 79K and the tranny problems discussed on this board, the car doesnt seem to have this problem but you never know.
Does anyone know any good extended warrantys??

The deal sounds fine on paper, but if there is something major wrong with the car then it WON'T be a good deal. (chant with me) PPI....PPI....PPI....PPI
Aftermarket warranties? I'm not sure if anyone touches AMG or V12 MB's anymore. It's too late to have a factory extended warranty (and at 79K miles I don't know if even an MB dealer could get it Starmarked). Assume you would be "on your own" after the purchase.
Please don't take this the wrong way (and I don't know your financial circumstances)..........My advice: Don't "stretch" to buy this car. The OEM brake pads alone (parts only, not including install) are $300!! Just for the front! Any pre-owned Mercedes-Benz ESPECIALLY an AMG car is gonna cost bucks to maintain. Parts stamped AMG are usually 2 to 3 times the cost of MB parts, which ain't cheap.
Good luck!

I got mine for 15k 72k miles mint condition off of E-bay! Dirt cheap and lucky.I have an aftermarket warranty on it as well!Car was also in NY.So if its in gd condition and you have someone chk it out chances are it is a good deal! To get a starmarked car it will probably have very low mileage and will be pretty pricy!I've had no problems with my C43 whatsoever!Originally Posted by Chappy

Thanks C43M3, Actually i just purchased the car today and im pretty happy with it so far, it is also in very very good condition with minor paint chips on the front grill, inside is perfect. But i guess you got a better deal then me, but i know i got a good deal as well, its at least 4-5k less then what the dealers want for it.
I am also interested in a aftermarket warranty for it, what warranty did you get for it, whats the name of the company ? number? have you dealt with any claims with them? Please supply this information as I am very interested. thank you
