C43 Question...

Hi Guys,

I had a few questions that I could not find the answer to, and I'm hoping someone knows the answer. Is the top speed of the US Spec C43 155MPH?

Also, if one chooses a C43 on 18" wheels with all season tires, does MB reduce the top speed because of the lower speed rating of the all season tires ?

I asked the second question because I learned that BMW does that with their cars, if you opt for a car equipped with all season tires (for example a 440i with Xdrive) the speed limit of the car is reduced to 130MPH if you choose a car that came equipped with all season tires rather than summer performance tires.

Thanks,
Dino

All US MBs are limited to 155. Not sure about the True AMGs.

My SL550 was limited to 155, same with the M, C, CLS, and Es

Hi Thanks for answering my question about top speed. My sales person just got back to me and said as you did, the top speed is 155.

Also for anyone interested in the other part of my question, he also said while the shop foreman does not recommend exceeding the speed rating of the tires that are on the car, MB does not reduce the top speed of a car even when equipped with all season rather than summer performance tires.

Thanks again,
Dino

The coupe order guide is identical to the sedan, but the cab order guide shows up slightly different for the C63S:

It actually wouldn't surprise me if my SA was wrong about the top speed of the C43. He seems like one of those guys who is likable and shmoozes with customers...but he is often lacking in substance when I ask a question about something specific to the car. I thought it was odd that MB didn't post the car's top speed on the website in the area about specifications on the C43.

Thanks!

The tire thing is interesting... it would be nice to know the truth.

The C450's order guide shows 155, and it seems odd to me that they would physically change the limit, especially when they are moving the car from "AMG Sport" to "AMG." But changing it on paper to cover their *** with the tire-spec does make some sense...

I'll see if I can get more info on this from my MB contacts.

Very interesting. I wonder if they did change/reduce the top speed on C43s, as the MBUSA website doesn't list top speed in the section on specifications, which I find odd because most other manufacturers in this market segment list it. But maybe it was something they didn't want consumers to notice.

I did visit another MB dealer this weekend, got to drive the C43 Coupe and sedan and he said, MB doesn't reduce top speed even if one gets a car with 18" wheels on all season tires (the way BMW does). However, if they reduced the top speed across the board on C43s, then its a moot point anyway.

Curious to hear what your MB contacts say.
Thanks,
Dino

Just found a Car and Driver review of the C43 Coupe and they say its governor limited to 130 mph.
