C43C - changing trim and retrofitting the clock
So, after negotiating with 3 dealers on 3 different stock cars I finally picked her up last week.
The one where I got the biggest discount on and eventually picked up had the performance seats (which I was worried would be too uncomfortable but it turns out they're great) but did not have the carbon trim which I really liked, nor the AMG steering wheel with the nice metal paddles. Worth it nonetheless.
On my drive back home something kept bugging me about the center console but I couldn't really put my finger on it, up until when I reached home and wanted to check the time. I then realized the 100k car did not have the 75 bucks analog clock option
.
I found the C63 carbon trim kit on ebay - including the IWC clock, but then I need to find the cd-command-buttons-with-clock-block thingy as well.
I'm new to the MB world, can someone please point me to that part number? Any clues on whether the non-clock module is plug-and-play, replaceable with the clock-module?
The dealer has been less than helpful here..
Cheers

Very interesting observation. I did not realize the coupe does not have the analog clock. If you were closer to me, I would even switch the trim piece with you when my car arrives, as I don't want the analog clock there. I don't know if it is plug and play, but I assume it only needs 12V from the battery, so if it's not plug and play, it should be fairly easy to get it to work, if not by you, definitely by a guys who knows a bit about cars and electrical.

Yea no clock in the coupe. I figured that out when we went to the dealer to look at options. The wife and I went in looking for another AMG to replace the lease that was ending, I wanted a C63S and the wife wanted a GLC 63 AMG Coupe. I did not want another SUV she said no more gas guzzlers (she hated the Z06) so we test drove the C43 Sedan and the Coupe as a possible compromise. When we got in the Coupe I asked the Sales guys which option provided the clock? he said none. The coupe does not have it... I was like WTF? you serious... In the end the compromise was the C43 coupe and no clock ROFL.

Over here (Switzerland) the analogue clock is a 75$ option on all coupes. The other 2 cars I was looking at had it. The C63 gets the IWC, all others just get a 'Mercedes' clock. I think it works really well on the center console.

In the US, we don't get the IWC clock on the C63 if the trim is piano black. Didn't realize this until after purchase. I don't know how much; but in general, IWC is expensive. I don't think it is a simple retrofit, because the Command Center controls the clock for time adjustments. It sucks not having the clock especially when I'm used to having one on the CL63, but I got over it. I think the upgrade cost for the OEM carbon fiber dash is worth it because you also get the clock. I don't understand the logic why it's not included with the piano black since all other trim colors get it.

I didn't realize it when I ordered the piano black trim either. I looked into it and it appears to be a big project. The clock appears to be run by the command system and has more than just a power and ground wire. The wires are not a simple plug in affair either as the wires run in different directions and to different locations. You also seem to have to have a dealership code in the clock to function properly.
I lost interest and have settled for no clock after reading up on it.
