Garage Door Opener ~ Cannot Get It To Program
As an aside, my salesperson was showing me 10,000 things I didn't give a flock about regarding the electronics at delivery but the ONE SINGLE THING I actually cared about (the garage door opener) he couldn't get handled
Back to the problem... Before someone tells me to "Google It" or "Read the Manual", I'm in the car reading and rereading pages 294-297 which discuss the garage remote programming
The only thing that is in the manual that doesn't apply to my vehicle is the part where it says "Turn the Smartkey to position 2 in the ignition lock"
I don't have a place to put the key in the ignition (that I'm aware of) as my car has a push button start/stop switch
What I did do was park in the driveway outside of the garage (as stated in the directions) and try different positions with the start/stop button without the vehicle running (again, as stated in the Owners Manual)
I was able to push the button on the mirror and get the light to flash yellow (orange?) and then when flashing pushed the garage remote in an attempt to program it to the mirror. The garage door opened/closed so the remote is transmitting
I tried different positions and distances with the remote and no luck, I was sure to hold the button on the remote in for at least 25 seconds as the manual states
After about a minute, the flashing yellow light turns steady red indicating my programming was unsuccessful
Additionally, I checked the actual door opening unit on the ceiling of the garage for any type of programming button but it does not have one (I read somewhere that sometimes the actual ceiling unit has something but this is not the case with my opener)
It is also what my salesperson told me after he was not able to get it handled
Any help would be appreciated
As I stated earlier, my $65,000.00 "computer on wheels" is great, but using the remote control in the mirror would be nice
Thanks in advance!

This is also what the salesperson did at delivery while at the dealership
On my actual opener unit, the only buttons I saw were adjustments for the position of the garage door (open more, open less, something along those lines)
Those "buttons" were most like wheels with a slot to use a screwdriver to adjust

BTW you can pop the push Stop/Start button. Just pull it out and you can insert the key. Useful for when/if your battery dies and you can't push start the car.

This is the one I used

I pressed and held one of the buttons for 10 seconds til it turned yellow and was in 'programming mode'. Then I pressed and held the garage door clicker next to it until the yellow homelink button turned green and it worked that way. I'm pretty sure I have a rolling code garage door too lol.

i programed the left button on my car mirror, it wont work.
but when i programed the right button on car mirror, it works, it can control the garage door opener.
I tried again yesterday with no luck, I have an appointment (unrelated) at the Dealership this morning. I will ask them to give it a shot as well
I did try programming a different button (not just the first one as I did previously) and also tried pushing/holding the 1 & 3 button as shown in the video
Something that should be so easy, is really frustrating!
As I stated in an earlier post, there are a million things I didn't care about at delivery (mostly electronic things) but the one single thing I did ask for (program remote) they couldn't get handled
There should be a dumbed-down version of electronic devices for people like me... Call it a "Light" version if you will LOL
You guys should see me with the TV Remote

Edit: I double and triple checked the actual ceiling garage door unit for any type of "training" button, etcetera, there is NOT one

Also after resetting to default (I did this everytime until it worked), hold down the desired button on mirror until it changes colour, then let go and with your garage door opener in the other hand, hold the opening button until the light flashes. After that it should be programmed.
This is was my mistake when my first attempts didn't work. I was holding down the button on the mirror the whole time I was pressing the opener button on the hand hold.
Thats all all I got! Hope it helps!
I did have a service appointment today (unrelated, hit a pot hole at highway speeds and bent the sheet out of my 2 left rims... gotta love winter... ~$500.00 in rim repairs with as many miles lol... Hope my service cost drops below a dollar a mile soon!)
Anyway, as long as I was there I had the service technician try to program it and of course he was also unsuccessful
I'm really finding it hard to believe that something as simple as programming a friggin remote control garage door opener is this hard for Mercedes to figure out
They cannot get the mirror/remote to "connect to home link" (their words)
He must have been doing something on the COMAND unit, because it was on a screen I have never seen when they gave me the car back
Since no one at the dealership in sales or service can figure this out, the resolution they gave me was to call home link from my driveway
The number on my service document to call home link is 1-800-355-3515 (hope this helps someone in the future who searches for this topic and finds this thread)
I will call them tomorrow and report back with the results

you need to program in the garage where the door opener learns the car's garage door signals
*****ty about your rims (I hate pot holes too!) and sorry that you are having trouble with the garage remote. better luck tomorrow!
First off, it MUST be a rolling code opener/remote or Homelink won't work. If you don't have a learn button on the opener itself, you might be SOL.
Second, Even if it is, some remotes and/or specific buttons on the remote just won't program.
I have a Chamberlain opener, less than 3 years old, and to program it with any if my Benz Homelinks I had to go to Home Depot and buy a new remote, which I then had to change the settings on (yes, believe it or not, some garage opener remotes actually have settings).
Once I did that, I was able to program the opener in the car, and once that was done, I could program the opener with the button on the actual opener motor itself.
Before that, I had a Genie opener with a 3 button keychain remote that wouldn't let me program the car with the big button on it and only with the smaller ones.
Calling Homelink is probably the best way to go if nothing else works. The dealer is useless with this kind of stuff.
You can easily find professional garage door installation. You can look it up online, and I'm sure you can find someone for your area. You should read reviews to make sure you hire someone good. Trust me, they will do a good job, and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
