Interior - Glove Box Squeak

Hey guys, I've been trying to hunt down the source of an annoying squeak in my glovebox when I drive over rough roads. I think I finally located the issue. It never made a sound when I leave the glovebox open while I drive.

I thought I'd share with the community. I put two pieces of felt tape near the two latch mechanisms (covering the plastic bumps) and it seems to have solved that issue. Does not interfere with the glovebox operations at all. See pic.

No joke, this was really unnerving me too, I’m surprised such a detail has gone unaddressed by engineers. A perfect remedy just prior to a road trip. I’m glad for a simple fix, THANK YOU for posting!

What's odd is my 2015 C300 didn't have this issue, yet my 2017 C43 had it. Applied the felt back in the summer just as posted in this photo and haven't had an issue since. Now, the car is ROCK solid and free of rattles. In fact, I've been in a 2017 E300 all week and it has more rattles/squeaks than my C43 (just trying out the Drive Pilot systems/considering ordering an E300 this winter).

Like most rattles this is a really temperamental one.

Yup - I solved it with a blob of silicone grease at either latch... very annoying thing! But the felt pads is a very good idea - besides the fact that I’ve now lubed mine and will probably never be able to clean them well enough to make anything stick

Other places I have found is:

- HUD cover glass - solved with a small piece of sticky tack in each corner
- Nav screen - solved by wedging a rubber ball behind the screen. Can’t be seen from inside the car
- somewhere in the center console - a good whack usually solves it for a week or so.

I think that covers my list.

Not right now - don’t have access to the car. But very easy to spot... just open the glovebox - there are a latch either side of the lid. Just put a blob on the flat sides of both.

Just wanted to say, you're a lifesaver!

I was having a squeak as well as some rattles coming from the front right of my car, thought it was the air vent thats above the glovebox, and also thought the squeak was maybe the suspension needing some lubrication but then saw this post!

Was a little difficult finding what you were talking about since the picture has been deleted, but I found the two bumps on either side of the latches on the glove box door, and covered them with some felt furniture leg bottoms I cut up, and voila, silent glove box no more squeaks and rattles. Crazy how those 4 little raised plastic bumps could cause all that noise. Thank you!

Since OP's picture expired, do you mind posting a picture for those who might have this problem?
