I have not tried this but my vehicle came stock with Y Rated Summer tires- these tires are rated for speeds in Excess of 186mph- why put this speed rating tire on a car that couldn't do that speed? Tires are always factory speed rated to the top speed of the vehicle and putting a lower speed rating tire on a car is against factory spec per the owners manual.
That tells me that this car has a very fast top speed.

1) The maximum speed rating of a tire doesn't indicate in any way the maximum speed of the vehicle. Plenty of cars have tires that are rated far beyond the actual top speed of the vehicle, or vice-versa, when an aggressive governor is used. An example of this is the B8/8.5 Audi S4 - if you ordered with all-season tires, the governor is lowered to 130 mph.
2) Secondly, not all Y-rated tires are capable of an excess of 186 mph. If the designation is written like "93Y", that means up to 186 mph. If the figure has parenthesis around it, eg, "(96Y)", that means it is rated beyond 186 mph.
As far as I know, the stock C43 tires are Y-rated, not (Y)-rated. Either way, the car is governed at 155 mph so that's all the tires have to be able to handle.
My personal opinion is the car can probably do at least 170 mph flat out.

Usually aftermarket tunes remove the limiter. Pretty sure mine does but I don't remember. Not really into going 'all out'. I'm guessing the factory limiter (US spec) is @155 and I have no desire to go near or above that. I'd say with no limiter and the power this car has with a tune, it could get to 180 on the 7spd pretty easy. Maybe a bit higher on the 9spd? Yikes! I shutter to think of hitting a nail at those speeds. I like quick acceleration to ~130 and spirited canyon twisties...I'll let the people with roll cages and fire suits do 180mph lol

When I was researching to buy my C43 I also looked at the CLA 45 and noticed that it had an option to remove the speed limiter on the options list which would give the car a 169 mph top speed, the CLA 45 is similar in weight and shape to the C 43 but I think it has less trans gears.

also less power. HP and drag (air resistance) at the end of the day is what determines top speed. so is the drag on the cla45 less or more than our car? if about same our car with more power should go faster. if we are heavier we may get there slower.

You're in the US where your horses are bigger than ours, so you need less of them to generate the same power. Yeah, but then what happens when the cla gets a tune? I'm still firmly in the C43 camp...

when cla gets a tune it goes faster just as we go faster. the point is we know roughly the same horsepower is electronically limited at 169 MPH thus we can at least do that. with a tune i could see us doing 187+ since our power levels become similar to the c63s. at that high of a speed aero starts really playing in for how fast you can go. i am sure these cars are stable at that speed but the aero on the 63 front end is slightly different. not sure what effect that has. either way i am not even sure where i could attempt to drive my car that fast. I would want to do it in the day preferably but too much traffic everywhere. if you go those speeds you dont want to do it near anyone or with anyone in your car otherwise you have a much greater chance of a reckless ticket rather than just a 25+ ticket. it will still be up to the police discretion and how he feels that day lol. just be honest with him. you were trying to see the top speed to tell the guys on the forum and you were doing it alone on the expressway away from everyone. the car can do it so you wernt endangering yourself and you should just get a hefty speeding ticket or a warning lol

What RPM are you at in 9th gear @ 80mph? My 7spd is at about 2,200rpm if I remember right. I'll have to check for sure next time I'm on the freeway.

Dont remember at what rpm it was unfortunately. And ill let you know tonight what rpm im at when @ 80 mph in 9th.

Car and Driver tested a C43 with 19" wheels and performance tires and they tested the top speed and it was 134 MPH (limited by a governor).
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...an-test-review
So it looks like all C43s owners that want a higher top speed need to get a tune.

My understanding is that all C43s (regardless of which tires/wheels its shipped with) are limited to 130 MPH due to a governor.

well thats a buzz kill. ive pegged the 130 limiter up to 133. either way, how are some people claiming 155 top speed stock>? is the c450 speed limiter 155? and c43 130? kinda sucks if you ask me.

I specifically read somewhere and I believe the sales guy at MB told me that when you get the all season tires they limit the speed to 130mph. I ordered mine with the larger 19" AMG rims that come with summer tires, I have not gone over 120mph yet, so I cant be sure.

Sorry, but I don't think your sales person was accurate. I was informed that wheel tire size does not affect the C43s top speed. The sales person and shop foreman at my dealer said there is no change in top speed regardless of the wheel/tire set up chosen, but they don't recommend exceeding the speed rating of the tire ( they don't want people getting the car aftermarket tuned for higher top speed and then have you continue to drive on tires rated to only 130). In addition, MB's own website says the top speed of the C43 is limited to 130 MPH. There is nothing stating that the top speed is raised or lowered depending on the wheels/tires chosen. Not to mention, the when Car and Driver tested the performance of a C43 sedan it was on 19" wheels and they were only able to get the car to 134 mph. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...an-test-review

My 2017 mid-May delivered Canadian C43 (OK, it was actually "birth'd" in USA, but I'm not holding that against it!) was ordered with the performance summer tires option (and all other non-cosmetic options) and the car stops (still rather quickly) accelerating when the car's speedo shows 220 kph/136 mph (don't ask how I know ... but it wasn't "in Mexico!"). Sorry, no (self-incriminating) video (will be published ... see YouTube for faster C43 autobahn videos).
According to everything I'd read, the Canadian (and US) cars were limited to 210 kph/130.5 mph, unlike the European-delivered vehicles. I was surprised when mine showed 10 kph faster and attributed it to the "AMG Driver's Package" option, which includes the (horrible-riding Continental run-flat) performance summer tires (which I immediately switched for the wonderful Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires).
BTW, I also agree that speedo reading and actual speed are likely to be 2 different things. In both our E350 and the C43, the "you're going this fast" street-radar alert-sign thingies consistently suggest that Benz speedos read slightly faster (about 5%) than you're actually going ... maybe to ensure they're not sued in the US?

It's limited to 133 mph in the C43 coupe (2017). I have the Pirelli runnflats but I don't know think that matters . It's a weird feeling because your foot is all the way down on the pedal and it won't go any faster beyond this. I felt like I was in a cruise mode at that point (speed stuck at 133) . Is there anyway to remove this barrier ???

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience. That converts to about 136.7 mph. It’s a bit more than the 130 mph limit, but far short of the 155 mph that some people thought the North American C43s with 19” wheels and summer tires could do (with a governor). It’s also important to note that there is often some small deviation between what a speedometer reads and actual speed. So whether your car was doing a true 220 KPH or actually a few shy of that it’s hard to say without independent testing. But still it seems the C43s do a few mph more than the claimed 130 mph.
