Anyone Move to C43 from BMW M4?

Hey everyone!
Totally new here and I have been soaking in all the great info.

I am currently in a 2016 M4 and up until now, I had zero complaints. I love the M4.

But...

That was when I lived in TX - where it almost never snows or rains!

Now that I live in British Columbia, I hardly get to drive my car for days on end. And that is the reason I am looking into the c43, due to its awd (4matic) feature.

I know it is not going to have the same amount of power as the m4, but it seems the best compromise to my desire to have power and drivability in the wet/snow covered roads.

Anyone else make a move from an m4 (or similar - such as c63)?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I think you would be making a wise choice if AWD is what you are looking for. You will definitely have the sportiness you need and confidence to corner in any condition.

If you can fork out the extra cash you could go for an E43/63. It doesn't snow too bad in some parts of BC so the extra HP of the 63 shouldn't be a problem since its got AWD+.

Thanks, Jonathan. I am looking into the e43/63 as well. Unfortunately, the dealer I visited recently had no C43/E43 to look at. I did look at a the c63 and it's obviously not gonna solve the problem being pretty much the same kind of issue as the m4. Either way, after being a bimmer guy for most my life and very new to MB - I do have to say, damn - the interior finish (even in base models) blows the M away!

2018 C43
As far as I know, the C63 does not come in all wheel drive (yet /maybe later). The E43 does, so does the E63 ($100k++). But going from M4 to C43 you may not notice much performance difference unless driven in a track (m4 should be faster there technically) . But from light to light C43 would probably be quicker. That said, pretty much any tunning box(piggy back) or tune would almost definitely make the C43 faster to 1:8 mile and maybe to the 1/4 than the stock M4.

That's a good point. I think the c43 will be just the ticket. If I pull the trigger, a piggyback tune will do well. Besides, another big difference (snow or no snow) is here in Vancouver, it is rare to even have a chance to go faster than 60mph(100kh) anywhere. Whereas, in TX - I was able to let loose just every single day. So, I suppose it's not as important since I never track my cars anyway.

Thanks! :-)

I'd rather have a B9 Audi S4 or S5 sportback over C43 any day if you must have AWD.
C63 you're in the same boat as M4.

c63
When I purchased my C43 I had a chance to spend 3 days with each car. Original intent was to go with an F80 M3 from my E90 M3.

I can tell you the difference between the 2 cars is significant. The M3/M4 is a much more a true to form sports car platform. It's rev happy, stiff (pause), clunky in a good way and best described as raw on demand power. It's difficult to enjoy the car in a tame manner...even more so than the E90. M cars are truly drivers cars. Where as this AMG-light C43 is like a Swiss army knife of cars. It does comfort and classiniss-ish pretty well and it does performance pretty well-ish and safety it does very well (lots of nannies). But like what a lot people have stated it's no C63 (I owned a W204 63 but not the W205) or M4.

I'm located in Vancity as well and due to the weather and little ones decided to go with the Swiss army knife C43 and kept the E90 M3 for the summer and runs to Whistler. So the thing to consider when making the decision is how much you value true performance and sports oriented driving versus all the other stuff (class/safety/reliability).

I plan to get a RaceChip in the near future so will be interesting to see if it gets the car any closer to the F80 in terms of just pure pick up and go.

Throw a stage 1 tune on it and you won't be missing the power as much, I promise : )

On top of that, the C43 makes good use of torque at low speeds.

2018 M4 comp cabriolet, 2017 C43 Sedan, (wife)
Own both cars and...

I have the M4 and my wife has the C43. The differences between the two cars are already well noted above. But just to throw something into the mix for fun: my son had the wife’s car out the other night and bet me that it could keep up with the M4 from a roll to about 70 mph. On a very secluded road with no traffic, we both took off evenly from about 10 mph. The C43 showed no significant difference in speed through at least 60 mph, where the M4 started to pull ahead, if only a little. We shut down at that point. But I would guess that the M4 would’ve continued to pull away, but not by much. The wife’s car surprise me.

Have you driven the new B9 and compared it to the c43? Being an Audi guy that's what I thought I wanted as well. I was waiting eagerly for the B9. And then it came. And long story short, I'm loving the **** out of my 'wannabe-AMG'

Suppose it doesn't matter much considering that you have a c63 and all. I guess I was just wondering if you were basing your opinions on first hand experience or not.

That's awesome that you had a chance to do that for comparison! I imagine traction played into the equation too.

Here's a great example of how traction makes all the difference in a C43 versus a C63. At about the 12:25 mark they all go off the line. Mind you they don't exactly look like they know how to get off the line fast but then again who really does.

Thank you all for the knowledge! Much appreciated.

I just realized that this is the epitome of 1st world problems: “I’m really sad I have to say goodbye to one expensive car for another one...”

Lol

If you can indulge me -to those who have had both m4 and c43 coupes...

Is the back seat about the same? I take my kids to school regularly (they’re in backless boosters) but the main reason I got the m4 over a 911 in the first place was the back (while unbearable for an adult) was plenty for the kiddos.

thanks again!

I think the S4 lacks the character that the C43 has (and the sound). But in every other way it's a good car, and probably as good as or even better than the C43 on track.

I'm an Audi guy first and foremost, I didn't want to wait months to get a RS5, didn't need AWD anymore and the 4.0TT is what drove me to getting a C63s instead.

I looked hard at the B9 S4 and S5 coupe, and S5 sportback and drove each on all types of roads around me. I drove C43 coupe, and C43 sedans back to back and the Audis had better steering feel, feedback and the transmission was superior. The Audis also felt less laggy when punching it from any speed. Interior on the Audis doesn't look as luxurious as W205s but the technology offered is above. Overall in the middle performance segment, those S cars are king over 340i Msport and C43s for me. The only drawback is the Bosh ECUs in the new B9s are tough to crack and there are only 1-2 piggy back options to tuning that engine currently, so if modding is your thing then the C43 might be a better option. In my case when I was shopping between the two it didn't matter I would still pick the B9 over C43 any day. But as for RS options I would pick the C63s over RS5/RS4 any day.

^ Don't listen to this guy, he just talks trash about the C43 every chance he gets. The C43 is better than S4/5 in a lot of aspects.

It's just my opinion, no need to get butt hurt. S4 and C43 are great cars and performance bargains for what they offer, it's just preference.. I prefer the S4.

Yeah it didn't sound like that in your other posts... Sure everyone is entitled to an opinion but you don't even own a C43 but have had 2 S4's and a C63 (this community hates our cars). I just want to let OP know how biased your responses are.

edit: upon reading your response again, I'm sorry to come off as too aggressive. I just disagree that the C43<S4.

No worries! I am a bit biased towards Audis, you really can't go wrong with either of those choices. It would be interesting to see a C43 with tune, full bolt ons take on a B9 S4 with tune, full bolt ons.
