C43 Tires

Hi,
2017 C43 Sedan with 6400 miles. Front tires are worn when the rears look brand new. Of course dealer is telling me I need two new front tires, have previously owned a 911 and didn't run into this issue, if anything the rears would wear out first. These are Perelli run flats. Any suggestions on what would be causing the abnormal wear and possibly replacements. Located in S. Florida

it's just the way this car is.

the OEM tires are garbage and that combined with the spec and camber that comes, they tend to wear extremely fast. I had cords showing on the inner tire after about 7k miles. My alignment was also out of whack.

Thanks...alignment seems to be okay but wasn't expecting to have to replace tires at such a low mileage in fact I got better wear out of the tires on my 911. So question is what do I get next?

Most people on the forums are getting a non-runflat tire to replace the originals. You can easily fit any tire in the same spec on the original wheels.

Many others have opted for new wheels and tires. The OEM wheels also bend if you even graze minor potholes and they charge something like 1200+ for a replacement if they can't be repaired.

Thanks again. I have the wheel and tire policy through Mercedes so not worried about any damage to the wheels. The car is also do for it's first service but not taking it to the dealer. I found a certified technician who has worked on our previous cars including the 911. Going to ask them for some suggestions....

Technician believes that the wear on the front tires is not normal, especially since the rears look like new. He suggested that I contact Mercedes Customer Care which I will do on Monday

I would consider 6,400 miles extremely premature wear. Keep us updated as to what the issue was.

Concerned that the dealer actually did a balance at my request back in December since I noticed that the tire pressures were not correct. Why didn't they notice or not inform me of any tire wear at that time? Not sure I trust them and perhaps there is an alignment issue or a problem with the camber? Extremely frustrated with this car and almost willing to take a hit to get out of my lease

I would find a new dealer to get your service, alignment sounds like it is off for whatever reason. If you have wheel and tire coverage/insurance, I believe this would qualify. Unless you are RWD doing regular burnouts 6.5 / 7k miles is very premature. As for service and whether a dealer actually did the work, I use a paint crayon to mark parts before dropping the car off. So my tires would be marked on the inner sidewalls with a symbol so I know if it was rotated for example.

Why did you get rid of the 911, getting in/out or some other reason?

Good luck getting some kind of satisfaction from MB, sometimes the State's AG office can add some needed muscle!

Rear tire
The front tire is completely shot, I wouldn't drive the car on that tire. Like you, I would be all over MB for this, I don't think a responsible dealer would allow you to drive the car this way!

Thanks....the dealer could care less, they just wanted to sell me tires. Going to use this as a talking point in my conversation with MB corporate tomorrow. I have to think there is an underlying issue that caused the tire wear, and especially since the dealer did a balance back in Dec at 4600 miles and made no comment regarding any wear to the tires, plus they didn’t even do a multipoint inspection

FYI

Had the same issue with my 2016 C250d 4Matic (standard suspension and 18"). They lasted much longer than this, but front tires was worn (especially on the outside), while the rear tires were fine.

My 2018 c43 started to make a sound like a wheel was out of balance. I took it to the dealer and it needed 2 rear wheels. Since the car was new with 7K miles - mb took care of it - no questions asked. MB gives dealers money for issues like this.

Thanks. I don’t have a lot of confidence I’m the dealer as they did a balance in Dec, the car had 4600 miles and there was nothing said regarding tire wear. I am going to push MB to step up....I’ve had numerous other issues, mostly noise coming from the center console and dash that the dealer still hasn’t resolved. Car was at the dealer 3 times in Aug and each time they did a multi point inspection. Then the car goes back in Oct, Nov and then twice in Dec- and they never did a multi point inspection.
Did you contact MB directly or did the dealer?

Well so far no luck getting any assistance from MB. Since I had numerous other issues, and the dealer actually screwed up trying to fix some interior noise issues which cost them money, they don't want to work with me. Sad that MB is willingly to lose a repeat customer over a few bucks.

same issue with front tire wear on the inside. Guess due to negative camber and toe-in.

Has anybody experimented with these 2 geometry factors? Just by basic logic, reducing negative camber and toe-in might have the wheels more straight and reduce the tire wear, right or wrong?

Has anybody experimented with tire pressure? Recommended 2,6 bar, seems high.

Have the 2018 c43 with 34 000 km and still got enough tread to get through this winter. I am on 18 " rims. I also had the 19" rims on my c400 previously.. which like you... chewed through a set every 10k km. I had no success in getting them to foot the bill for replacements.
Same old story... "summer performance tires...this is considered normal"
