Single or dual exhaust?

Hello, I'm going to be making a custom exhaust, Would having a dual 2.5 inch from the cats to the mufflers with a Y pipe be better for sound and performance opposed to a single pipe from the cats to the mufflers like it is already? Would a H pipe dual exhaust from the cats to the mufflers be more optimal?
I currently have the standard amg exhaust. Anyone know what the stock piping diameter measurements are?
Thanks.

So, you have the performance exhaust and want a custom one?

and when you mean you are getting it custom, are you talking your own modeling, metal, machining, welding, etc.? That sounds immense.

As far as dimensioning, maybe someone knows how to find drawings but I would hope you wouldn’t need to get up in there with a caliper and a micrometer.

I have the standard sports exhaust, not the performance. Yes, I'll be getting Stainless steel T304 tubes. I'm going to stop by my local exhaust shop to get the right dimensions.
Honestly i don't think its too complicated, and saves you a few thousands opposed to armytryx, brabus, and capristo lol

That’s true it does save money...for now. But those guys are vetted. They have qual procedures, testing, quality control, nondestructive examination. Not to mention they have certs for the metal coming from mills so they probably get good metal that gets verified, their welders are probably certified and they have vetted weld schedules.

And then you gotta hope that puppy stays nice and tight, no problematic corrosion, using high quality fasteners and other parts, etc.

maybe be you know all this so i am in no way trying to offend your knowledge, just making sure you know what may be going on behind those high prices and what risk you may be adding. I am always for gettin down and dirty with customs though.

You have the standard exhaust if you have the y-pipe.

I am an exhaust nut I've build 5 or 6 full exhaust setups on previous cars, so I figured I would throw my $ 0.02 in...

Exhaust sound is personal preference. Dual 2.5" piping in y-pipe, x-pipe, or h-pipe will all sound somewhat similar with the stock mufflers. The turbos naturally muffle the finer exhaust notes out anyway. Running an h-pipe with true duals might be a little louder, but I wouldn't expect much change in exhaust volume bc your y pipe is larger diameter to make up for a single pipe vs dual. Be aware that running straight pipes w/o a muffler or at least a good one will result in considerable drone at low rpm.

On performance, you aren't going to gain much more than a few horsepower running larger piping. Unless a big turbo kit comes out for these cars, the stock exhaust pipe diameter is fine. You would probably lose 30-40 lbs of weight with new piping though. If you are looking for actual performance gains, just get downpipes catted or catless will make a difference in turbo noise, spool time, etc. If it still isn't loud enough, remove the resonator.

Tons of high horsepower GTRs run y-pipes btw, so don't thing that a single pipe will kill your horsepower. Here is a good video on sound difference between h-pipe and x-pipe, I am partial to x-pipes.

Thanks for your input. Yea i've been considering going with the h pipe with true duals, I know itll be louder but thats what i wanted. I've been using x pipes on all my cars and haven't really dont any work with the H pipe. I think ill settle with catless downpipes, H pipe with duals, res delete and keep the mufflers. Just waiting for BMS to release the jb4 so i can do my downpipes already. My goal was for a more refined loud exhaust.
Someone has a c400 with a c63s exhaust and i think it sounds great. It'll be pretty difficult to get a c63s exhaust though lol

That should sound really good. I bet you will be able to hear the turbos through the exhaust as well. What's your time frame? I want to see a video after you get the work done.

Definitely before summer ends, exhaust is too quiet so i can't take it much longer. Hopefully BMS will release the jb4 so i can get my downpipes in aswell. Duals/hpipe/res delete forsure this summer.
