Question 2019 Instruments cluster and media screen retro fit

Has anyone researched whether the new digital dash cluster and 10" Comand screen can be retro-fitted into the pre-facelift car? No doubt it would be V-Expensive, but I'd certainly be interested in having it done.

Yes it can be done, you just need to buy a 2019 model.

Thank you for your valued input. Forums are all the more helpful when there are idiots with nothing better to do than troll members with genuine questions.

Good question and hope someone will eventually answer or try a retro. I personally don’t care about the digital dash, but would love the updated COMAND Navi with CarPlay/Android Auto.

yes it can be done but expect to pay several thousand dollars. parts alone are that plus anyone who can successfully do it (such as myself), will charge you accordingly for the time it will take to code things. also there are different CAN messages in new architectures so some functionality will not be present from new stuff. its really not worth it to be honest. Just get a new car. Unless you have 5 grand to spend.

Is that for both as your estimate for pricing? Wonder if just the new HU and new USB part for phone would work on a post Sept 17 build, 2018 with COMAND...would love to just get CarPlay/Android Auto integrated? I personally dont care about the digital dash as a retro and dont trust the Chinese made retros for ACP/AA.

I don't think so as you know, MB adds more then just plug and work cables.

just to give you an idea head units new alone cost $1600-$2200 new. sometimes i can get a better deal but mb oem parts stick to pricing. screens are generally $3-500+. so you are around $2800 in components before we even get into wiring, labor and coding. just for screen and headunit...
