2016 C450 AMG turbo upgrade project

Hello all, just thought I’d start up a new thread documenting my process with upgrading my C450. Starting with the upgraded turbos from Jesse at Turbokits.com with custom PTP turbo wraps that just got finished.

Currently have AMR Stage 2 tune with AWE track exhaust, weistec DP’s, and BMS upgraded airbox filter.
Thanks Jesse and Joe at PTP for getting these done for the C450.
Next step is getting everything to Matt and team at AMR performance for them to do their magic.
Will post new info on how things are going and ultimately posting the before and after dynos and some video.
Have a great week ya’ll.

UPDATE: ENGINE FINALLY PULLED!

Hello everyone,
Just an update and finally a milestone in this project. My man Cesario over at SVG just sent over some pics!
Engine and assembly is dropped and engine build is on its way.
Pistons, rods, head bolts, Wagner cooler, HPFP, LPFP, Fuel rail is on its way to getting put in.
I’ll keep posting as I get update.
As planned once all this is done plus a new custom CF trunk lid it finally is going to make its trip up to CT to AMR for TCU upgrade/tune, install turbos, Meth kit, and custom dyno tuning.
stay tuned and thanks again for everyone’s continual help on this project and thanks to Cesario at Silicon Valley Garage!

I'd expect 500 whp at least with these. Are you going to have it dyno tuned?

500 whp+ would indeed be nice.
Yes it’s going to also get a Snow meth kit installed and full dyno tune. I know a few members where asking about this new turbo upgrade in other threads; so I am looking forward to posting some dyno numbers for the 450.

Dyno numbers does not mean much to be honest as there is a fair amount of deviation there. Post 1/4 mile times and trap as a valid reference point. You can get a Dragy fairly cheap.

Yes, definitely! Any recommendations/link for some reliable ones you may know off.
Thanks in advance

Yep, Snow performance stage 4 meth-kit also on its way soon too.
Just coordinating with AMR now and setting up a date to ship the car to CT; also coordinating work schedule to fly out as well when the car arrives to get some photos and post the initial pre install dyno numbers.
Slight delay since I was waiting for my custom carbon fiber skinned hood to arrive from Georgia and to finally install it.

You done anything to the motor to beef it up? If not, those rods are going to give you some problems.

Yup, the rods are the weak link in this motor. Don't over do it.

Sounds like that is the general consensus,

I had looked into upgrading the internals, but didn't come across anything available.
A member on here even did a port and polish and after dyno ended up with no significant increase in performance.
I do know AMR is known, from a few other members on here who have or are currently doing turbos themselves, that they squeeze out the performance while maintaining safety/reliability.
Do anyone know if upgraded rods are available for the C450?
Any advice or links would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

If you send a rod to any of the major aftermarket rod companies they can turn out a rod from the sample. Very easy. I’ve done that many times for Ferrari and Porsche rods.

I just checked my records from 2018. I had a set of 8 Pauter 4340 rods custom made for $2250 through Top End Performance for a Ferrari engine I built. So that’s $280 per rod. There are many other manufacturers out there who will do a similar job, and price varies depending on design, material and options.

That’s great.
Any recommendations on material/design that I would be looking for to have a manufacturer make; to be higher grade than the stock ones?
Thanks again

Carrillo H Beam Rods made out of 4340 aircraft quality steel, are about the strongest you get.

Age old question- Pauter or Carrillo? Either will work well. At the end of the day the considerations you’d need to take into account are - the right advice, turn around time and cost. If you’ve built a custom engine with non-off-the-shelf/non-catalog components for one-off projects and worked directly or indirectly with these suppliers, you’ll know who’d you turn to for rods/pistons every time. Everybody has their own preferred way of working on an engine project. Last but not least, don’t forget to have fun while doing it!

I appreciate the feedback,
contacted Top End performance, to see if rods and pistons were available or custom made and see what the process and cost would be.

Thanks

Appreciate the feedback and info as well.
Contacting them in the morning as well to see what services they can offer. Initially didn't see any off-the shelf applications for the C450. So will speak to them about the process for custom build.

Since we are on the topic with weak links in the C450, it's not a daily driver; nor drag strip car.
Putting in upgraded stock housed turbos from Turbokits.com with Snow water-meth and AMR in house custom tuning.
Currently has Stage 2 tune with weistec dp's and AWE track exhaust.
With this current direction, AMR's goal is to hit 500whp+, and now looking to build in with upgraded rods and possibly pistons.

Would the rest of the stock internals handle the rest?
Searching also for a high flow fuel pump any recommendations?

Thanks in advance for all the great info and links!

I don't have the specific "specs" however they are custom made by Jesse over at Turbokits.com from Grade A cores.
I am sure if you contact Turbokits.com here on the forum they can give you more info on the turbos.
