Owner review 2021 C43 & C63s

Let's just get this out of the way early -- my days of trying to make cool videos are behind me - and my GoPro Black 7 hates me. That being said I am going to start putting out some videos of the two cars that I own, the 2021 C43 and 2021 C63S to show side by side similarities and differences. I am definitely going to make mistakes, likely many - so don't get too spooled up over it Here are the first bunch of videos - these will be in HD once YouTube gets around to it.

Wow! Your homework is handed in early : P
Watching the videos now : )
Edit: Nice videos, very detailed and thorough, explained all the options, I like how you explained the exhaust from underneath as well.
This is a very quick comparison, looking forward to the driving review!

I started posting the 63 driving videos in the 63 forum - maybe should keep them all in one place, I dunno. I suck at the internet and vidoes.....so there's that! Edit....added to the top, hopefully

I want to take a moment to thank you for sharing the joy you have with your C63s and us forum members. It was a joy watching it and hearing the exhaust of that V8 and listening to you explaining everything. I like how much you empathized on the safety features which is something MB focuses on and are very proud of.
One thing I notice is, well, now I can finally understand why you said the sensors are at "full blast". I heard it myself now from your video and they are literally crying : P
Overall, very nicely done

Ah that's great! Thanks for taking the time to send the nice comment, I appreciate it. (and I know my videos are nothing in comparison to what's out there!)

Very cool, thanks for putting this together. If and/or when you modify or tune each, we expect a similar review 😎

Ha! I Think I have a way to go before I need any more than the 63s already dishes out As soon as I have an opportunity and there's a few more miles on the clock I'll do one for the 43.

Really liking the video! I would suggest to give it a title that reflects the main topic of discussion. If you're going to have multiple parts like part 1, 2, 3, 4, then that would really help. Like for me, I was looking for one where you would drive the car spiritedly because I wanted to hear and see it being driven aggressively, so it would help not having to sift through all 4 parts.

Hearing the cold starts back-to-back was really illuminating.

Of course the tone of the V8 is hard to beat, but the C43 with PE is very impressive in the volume/character department as well.

I agree, for a V6, the Performance Exhaust is pretty incredible. The tone is definitely not as deep and powerful as the V8, but it is still quite loud for a stock car, especially when you upshift above 4k RPM in SPORT+, the pops are LOUD.

100% agreed. I've had plenty of turbocharged Bimmers (tuned + BMW perf. exhaust), plus a W204 C63, and this car is *nearly* tied with the W204 in terms of how raucous the exhaust is. The NA V8 was obviously much louder and deeper, but the number of downshift crackles, pops, burbles, and bangs is virtually identical.

My PFL C43's PE was even more active in this department, but I believe the tone is a bit deeper on my FL.

I know a lot of people are down about the 4-pot C-Class AMGs, but I have quite a bit of confidence that they'll manage to nail the sound. It'll just be another tone/character change.

yep, when i drove the c63 i really thought it would be a lot louder than the c43, but it wasn't true. it's has a deeper tone/growl but doesn't have the higher pitch noises of the C43, and the pops and bangs aren't as loud when u wring out the 43. With the C43 it easier to make it pop and bang when you want it to. At least this was my experience with my limited time in the 63.

In non spirited driving in sport or sport + I feel like the 43 is quite lively in the exhaust department -- much more so than the 63S when it comes to crackles and such, however with a much different tone. When driving spirited the 63S is just an animal with the deep V8 roar. I've yet to take the 43 on a high reving ride -- I will soon though and I'll make a video comparison.

The sounds on the A 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG are actually quite good, so I don't doubt Mercedes in this department either. There are pumped in noises inside the cabin though but they're able to do the tone well and it sounds pretty good. Just no more pops and crackles outside, I think that will be a thing of the past pretty soon here.

yep, there is a video on youtube where a C43 driver immediately notices that the cla45 has less cracks and pops compared to his 43. with our 43s its easy to make the noise right around 4k over and over and over.

@djprov431 cant wait till you break in the 43 and start going on some spirited drives, big difference when shifting at around 4k vs redline in terms of the noise that it produces. Also, the 43 also has a strong physical kick when it shifts near redline lol.

Holy hell -- I just drove the 43 tonight in sport + manual mode red line shifting through the gears --- good lord it's fast and sounds freaking amazing! The exhaust literally sounds like a cracking a whip when you shift it up at high revs ---so much fun!! My fiancé yelled at me the entire time moral of this story is I will be stealing the car away sometime soon to make my drive impression video - I was seriously grinning so much....and yes I absolutely agree with the above regarding the noise and gear shift at high rev! Soooooo much different than the 63s ---- both super fun without doubt.
I also made two other observations - The 43 shift light (at least in S+) is progressive - the bottom of the screen lights up red when you're close to the needing a shift, and then the entire screen flashes red at the max shift point -- one second later and the ECU cuts it.....On the 63 (and maybe I just missed it, but I doubt it) it's not progressive with the shift light, just the bottom lights up red, no entire screen flash....I will need another look to confirm. And lastly the 43 doesn't get the IWC clock like the 63 does - those *******s! (I hear in 2022 both get no clock at all!)

hahah glad you enjoyed it!!! i forget whether the quote was bike related (600cc vs 1000cc) or car related, but it goes something like this. It's more fun driving a slow car/bike fast than a fast car/bike slow. The c43 literally screams, and you still stay somewhat safe (probably not. but whos counting (mph wise). Yepp, i think everyone on this whole forum agrees - regardless of which model, that the absence of the clock is very upsetting... its the details that counts.... especially on a Benz!

Totally agree -- I actually said to my fiancé that driving it like I was reminded me of my motorcycle -- the car loved the revs and rewarded you so well with the cracks and bangs - we never broke 100 but it sure felt great.....and I think that's the part I see the big difference between the 43 and 63 -- you get over 100 mph way too easily in the 63 with less fanfare.

Thank you for sharing the driving impressions! Really useful to have direct comparisons between the C63 and C43 from someone that actually *owns* both cars.

Hell of a garage. And that IWC clock on the 63 is hands-down one of my favorite touches in the 63 cabin. Little details like that make the C63 so special.

TWO THUMBS UP on the review!!! hopefully all those people who say "43/53 are not real AMGS" actually read this and realize how great of a job MB did by bringing in the mid-tier. It really helps people who would have never experienced an AMG at all actually get a chance to consider/experience the magic lol.

There are plenty of us that can't rely on a rwd vehicle or commute day to day on v8 mpg ratings. They honestly perfected the Jekyll and Hyde for those who need it the most!!!
