When will the C43 get 4Matic+ (emphasis on "+")? Haven't read anything about it coming in 2022...

I thought they would make it available on the C43 since it's available on the CLA45, but I guess that's the top tier in it's class (unless you're in Europe!)...

The CLA45 is an Affalterbach AMG and I'm in agreeance Mercedes will likely keep that party trick (as with a Race drive mode) for the Affalterbach built AMG models.

The lack of Drift Mode will help keep some money in your wallet with tire savings

So right about the tire situation! What is special/different about the Affalterbach AMGs - are they more performance-oriented, etc?
Thanks for your enlíghtenment!

Well, no street AMGs are actually built in Affalterbach, only the engines and the customer racing cars. The V8s and the I4 in the 45 series are handbuilt in Affalterbach, and AMGs with the handbuilt engines are often referred to as the true AMGs under the one man, one engine philosophy. Many limit that further to only the AMGs with the V8s. Either way, those cars are typically deconstructed and rebuilt by AMG to be performance cars from the ground up, whereas the 43 and 53 models have regular MB engines that were tuned by AMG and receive other AMG upgrades such as suspensions, seats etc. The GT and GT 4-doors are from the ground up designed by AMG, as there is no regular MB variant of those cars, but all AMGs are built in MB factories even the GTs in places like Sindelfingen, Bremen etc, and even in South Africa and the USA.

It is true, though, that certain performance aspects and parts are reserved for the AMGs with the handbuilt engines or AMGs like the GT 4-door that are exclusive AMG models. Such things are the electronic locking rear differential, 9-stage traction control, Drift mode, Race mode, AMG DYNAMICS just to name a few. Those cars are considered more hardcore performance cars that are more likely to be taken to the track or for a drifting event, whereas the 43 and 53 are more meant to be purely street cars. In the past, some of these performance systems were even reserved for only the S models and above, but AMG has started to offer packages to add them to the non-S models. For example Race and Drift mode can be added to the A/CLA45 via a package, but it's standard on the A/CLA45S.

One caveat to superswiss’ post regarding the GT 4-door…they do make a 43 version which has the same line-built, AMG tuned engine as the rest of the 43 models. Big anomaly, but surely just a way for them to bring up the average MPG for the segment to meet emissions standards.

They first had the GT 53 and they realized it isn't enough, so they added GT 43 in the mix. At first, I thought they put the C43 engine in the GT 43, then I realized it was also the I6 from the GT 53, guess detuned.
