Tires

I’m overwhelmed wth the amount of recommendations on here.
I live in North Carolina, our winter is coming and my tires (Pirellis) are about worn out. I’ve read that people recommend Michellen pilot 4s. Just wanted to see if this really is the best recommendation for all season tires on my c43 coupe.

Michelin's all-season AS3+ was recently fully discontinued and replaced in the lineup with AS4. Comparisons and YouTube reviews started hitting around this time last year. I've run AS3+'s in all flavors of Midwest weather, including winter snow likely way worse than you'll ever see in NC. When the time comes, I'll continue to on with the newer AS4 tires.

Do you get a lot of road noise and how well do they stick?

I just recently purchased the Michelin AS4's to replace my worn AS3's. I have the optional 19" wheels and was very unhappy with the setup. The front tires are made in Mexico and the rears were made in the US. The tires looked totally different front to rear, see the attached pics. I discussed with Discount Tire, Tire Rack, and Michelin and could never get this resolved. That said, the AS4's seemed to be an improvement over the old AS3's.

In the end, I had Discount tire replace the funky looking AS4's with the new Continental DWS06 Plus tires. Much happier with both the tire noise and the ride. The sidewalls are definitely softer, so I offset this with slightly higher running pressures (37F\35R). Handling is on par with the AS4's but the turn-in is not quite as sharp. No regrets.

I made my decision based on Tire Rack's latest test of UHP four-season tires dated Sept 21, 2021. Cannot post workable link; go to tirerack.com, find the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Four, click on links for "Tire Rack Tested" then click "Read Full Test Report". There was also an April 26, 2021 test report that can be accessed through the Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate link.

Very happy with PS4S on my PFL coupe. They perform great in wet and dry, but do not do as well in cold temps (largely irrelevant for me in coastal Southern California).

I live just outside Chicago. I am a firm believer in dedicated winter tires. Sure it costs, but a lotless than one collision or getting stuck. I have used Michelin Alpins in the past with good results. I just switched to Nokian Hakkapolitas. Most car magazine tests found them to be the best winter tires by far. I went through last inter with them and they were great.

Another vote for Nokian Hakkapolitas. I am on my fourth set, not because they wore out, but because we've changed cars and the wheel sizes changed. To me they are the best dedicated winter tire. I figure the Finn's know snow.

Hey there, nice to see another NC'er. Welcome to the forums.
I have been happily using PS4's for several years I live in the Piedmont so we don't get snow much, but we do get ice.
GL to you!

The PS4S summers will be going on this car after these tires are done.

Specifically bought the car (and tires) with the intention of using for some wintertime cross-country road trips. Planning to leave East TN soon after Thanksgiving and then work our way towards California. Not sure how far North we will venture, but anticipate working around snow to visit some of our favorite national parks.

I think you will enjoy the PS4S, great tire in the right temperature range.

I also live in NC, gastonia area, and have ps4+ on my CTS-V, I daily drove that through last years "winter" and they did, ok. Granted that was with 556 at the tires. The stock tires on the amg 19" wheels are garbage. Squirmy as hell under higher braking pressure and higher turn angles. I moved from Michigan snd always had Conti DWS tires and they did great even with some decent snow. Really only had to bust out the blizzacks for maybe a month span prior. I've always been a fan of Conti for all seasons snd will likely switch to them soon.

It sounds like the recommendation is ps4s, but Is this only for winter or for all seasons?

PS4S is a great performance summer tire. Grip diminishes at temperatures below 40 degrees.

Then there is the Pilot Sport All Season Four which is better for lower temps and light snow. Also referred to as AS4 in these discussions.

Go to Tire Rack and read their tests and customer reviews. That’s your best source for determining what suits you best.

Stock 19's
38 psi front
36 psi rear
PSI will not matter runflat vs. Non runflat...just find something that works for you within the acceptable psi ranges on gas door

I'm in the middle of shopping for tires as well. For me it comes down to Michelin pilot sport a/s 3+ and Michelin PS4S
still would like done more insight on the two.

I believe All season 3+ was replaced by its successor, All season 4.
Honestly, the AS3+ or AS4 serves a different purpose to the PS4s, if you have a proper set of winter tires and it doesn't rain that much, PS4s for sure for a summer performance tire at a cost of slightly? lower tread life than AS3+ and AS4. Otherwise if it rains a lot the all season tires will be better.
Here's a comparison video I found on youtube:

Here is another video. Comparing Michelin's x-ice snow (snow tire), All season 4 (all season) and the Pilot sport 4s (summer tire):

I currently have Michelin AS4 on my c63. Traction is much better than expected and I have been happy with them so far.
