1. So long as the tyre shop is competent, there likely would not be much of a difference in the alignment. These days they use lasers to align so unless the tyre shop is eyeballing it there should be no appreciable difference.
2. Not sure if $890AUD is inclusive of install, but that seems pretty steep. If I am remembering correctly you can get aftermarket AGM batteries for ~$450-475AUD. Heck, you could get Varta batteries for ~$550, Varta being the german OEM who makes the Mercedes batteries last I checked. I also don't believe mercedes vehicles require their batteries to be programmed, unlike BMWs. Then factor in probably $50-100 install if you're not able to install yourself. So even if you go down Varta route and pay someone $100, It's $650 and that's $240 saved.
Though I might be over-estimating how much the fitting costs.

My dealer told me a year ago that the battery need to be replaced but I thought it was premature and have driven on it since for over a year until just lately the warning light says stop vehicle leave engine running. I drive it for a little bit after warms up and when I restart the car the light goes away. The battery is failing ultimately and I'm looking at replacement as well. I'm considering the optima yellow top. The dealer out here quoted $600 for replacement battery which I think is absolutely ridiculous.
Optima Yellow Top is an excellent choice. Changed mine about 3 days ago, around $335 US + tax. Message "stop vehicle leave car running" completely gone. It means the battery is not holding much charge unless you do a long drive. The battery may last some time, but on the long-run it will die.
Just replaced mine after getting the "Stop Engine... " Warning message and trying to see if it would consistently reset for a week. If I have learned anything about car maintenance, it's that there is no such thing as a planned battery failure!
Well, yes I do agree that there is no such thing as a "planned battery failure". But it is also true that when a battery begin loosing its storage capacity, it will fails at some point in the near future. It will be ok if the car is used on a daily basis and so on, but leaving it parked a couple of days it may not start-up. Is not a maintenance issue, is life span of the equipment.
At least in my case I haven't got again the message since the battery change.
