Is this just a "skin wound"
Hi everyone,
On the drive home last night, through some pretty terrible rain I started hearing a strange noise at low speed.
On checking the car out the underbody protection panel seems to have broken (maybe the force of water from a huge puddle or maybe there was some debris in the water??). I've attached a video to show the damage.
Any ideas on whether this will be a major repair? FWIW doesn't seem to be leaking anything.
Thanks

Me neither at first but then I was able to open it up on VLC, I don't see any damage at all other than a cover needing to be replaced as mentioned by OP but in case I missed something I will check again, in the mean time for those who are trying to open the video to help OP check, use VLC, it worked for me.

I'd just take it off and see if you could salvage it

I had a similar thing happen to me. There was an object in the road that I hit at high speed since I couldn't move out of the lane to avoid. In my case it punched a hole, not a tear like yours. The hole wasn't ginormous so I used Gorilla Waterproof Patch and Seal Tape in black. Incredible stuff and still on after many miles.

Those panels are (somewhat) reasonably priced at your dealer (or possibly less expensive via on-line suppliers) and are easy to replace yourself. "Been there, done that."

Got it checked out. The engine tray is torn and needs replacing but no major damage thankfully. Probably the cheapest repair ever for a Benz!
Thanks everyone for your advice
