I'm buying a C450 this spring or summer. What options are most important to you? Somebody posted this PDF of a 2016 C450 brochure to this site, but I don't know if it is for the USA market or other country.
https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen...1_15june15.pdf
It's nice to see all the possible options, but which ones have you found to be the most valuable, important, enjoyed, or however you want to phrase it. What is it that you wouldn't do without?

What does the HUD provide on the C450? Is the location projected on the glass adjustable and saved with the seat memory?
I'm thinking the Multimedia Pkg with the COMAND Nav w/ Voice Control and larger screen would be very nice. Is it just voice control for navigation, or is it also voice control of the stereo? ("Set volume to 30%", or "Listen to Sirius XM channel 26")
In the Driver Assist Pkg, how well do the Lake Keeping and the Distronic w/ Steering Assist work? Are they annoying and disabled in your car?
The Active LED headlights with intelligent high beam control seems essential, but I don't see it on many cars for sale.

I just sold my C450 Saturday. It was equipped with every option except for Distronic and ventilated seats. Personally, HUD did almost nothing for me. It was turned off 95% of the time as just another distraction while driving.
What was in the HUD? Just speed? Nav next turn instruction? Anything AMG related?

It could be set to show speed, RPM, navigation instructions individually or grouping those together. Originally Posted by GermanCarShow

OK, thanks for the HUD details. Does the Multimedia Pkg with the COMAND Nav w/ Voice Control just allow voice control for navigation, or is it also voice control of the stereo? ("Set volume to 30%", or "Listen to Sirius XM channel 26")

I'll be completely honest, I never once used voice control and navigation maybe once just to test it's functionality. A 2016 is no longer going to be receiving navigation updates so keep that in consideration when trying to navigate with it.Originally Posted by GermanCarShow

Oh, no more updates? That's interesting. How are/were the updates provided?
My first experience with a car with a screen and navigation was my dad's 2014 Tesla, which had a 3G connection and what looked like Google Maps but I'm not sure. Now, my wife has a 2022 Volvo XC60 with an Android Automotive (which is NOT Android Auto) infotainment system and it has 4gLTE and Google Maps, and it will occasionally download off-line maps on its own. We will have to pay for the 4gLTE after 3 or 4 years, but maps are live and all updates for everything are OTA.

ExploreI called a dealership and after finally finding someone who knew something, they said that based on a VIN I supplied for a C450 that they found a version 15 map for 2021/2022. So, it looks like they're still making updates. Now, it would cost about $150 to get the update, but at least they are still making them for the "older" cars. Waze, Google Maps, and so forth are always updated on the phone, but these older cars didn't have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay yet.
Since we're chatting, and you had a well optioned car, is there a particular option you really appreciated having?

This goes completely against what you're looking for, but I absolutely loved having the panoramic sunroof. Originally Posted by GermanCarShow

You could also try retrofitting it.Originally Posted by GermanCarShow

Saw this video, not sure if it works. youtube.com/watch?v=PEcZP7F04s0
That being said, I believe aftermarket solutions like the android screen can enable both andriod auto and apple carplay.
Another more recent solution is a box that has android running inside and like a mini computer. I think one of the forum sponsors (I believe their name was Mandel) sells it. Personally never used it so I am not sure how well it works or if it works though, please do some research before deciding : )
That video is nice! Looks like a very good CarPlay/AndroidAuto solution if the user is happy with the factory screen. I'll have to research that and other options after I get the car because that is too nice to not have. At least I know for sure that I don't have to worry about factory map updates! :-)

Honestly, if you are using smart phone integration anyways, better off using Waze and Google Maps (imo... cuz at least you get live maps and live traffic) and don't have to waste money on factory maps. Originally Posted by GermanCarShow

Here ya go. This is an almost identical spec to mine but without a pano.

Yeah, there's a few on CarMax and others on AutoTrader. I think I'm tracking 7 of them in my spreadsheet where I've got the details from VIN decoder, location, price, URL for the ad, etc. I need to sell my 1980 450SL first to free up a garage bay, then buy a C450, then sell the 300 Diesel to make one less car parked in the driveway.

Unless you really don't need the vehicles.

Yup, OP should consider not selling it or you can buy it from OP...Originally Posted by CincyMBGuy

We've got a 3 car garage and 5 cars, so we need to get rid of 2 to buy 1.

What kind of number are you looking for from your SL? Have any pics to share? I'm in Ohio as well.Originally Posted by GermanCarShow

I'm looking for $6000.
This SL is a dependable driver that has never left me stranded. I used it as my daily driver for 6 months in 2015 with no issues, and continue to drive occasionally every summer. In between using it on sunny days, the new owner can work on all the things that are wrong. Off the top of my head:
Good
- Reliable drivetrain
- Original radio works fine
- All lights work
- New alternator and belt this winter
- Inspected at collision center (see tracking below), no sign of any structural problems
- Many new parts added when I purchased in 2012, like ignition parts, brakes, seatbelts, front sway bar bushings, rear sway bar links, tires, reconditioned wheels, sun visors, shift linkage bushings, window lift motors, shocks, steering pitman arm bushing, steering column coupling to gear box ...
Bad
- Automatic Climate Control inop
- Cruise Control inop
- Door/trunk locks
- Driver's door handle
- Hard top seals to windows and body
- Soft top is shot
- Instrument cluster/gages have issues
- Tires are 10 years old
- Some rust spots
- Doesn't track quite right (trailing arm bushings?)
- Maybe more ...

I'm going to take a look at a cheap, cheap R230 this week with collapsed ABC. That one might be beyond saving.
I didn't think this forum was crowded with shade tree mechanics working on classic cars. That's more of a PeachParts crowd.
