performance exhaust issue

Upon starting my C43 w/ performance exhaust on,
It seems that it is loud for about 5 seconds and then becomes quiet again?
And it really does not sound very loud while driving normally? I have only had my vehicle for a week so I am not
sure what to expect.....Has anyone experienced this?
I have tried searching but nothing....TIA

To be perfectly honest, there isn't all that much of a difference between the valves open or closed. When the car is started cold, then it's mostly loud because of the cold start and the higher idle revs until things settle. Also depends on what mode you are in. Opening the exhaust in Comfort mode doesn't make it all that much louder. In S+ you get additional theatrics with pops & bangs. So it's a combination of the exhaust valves open and the drive mode you are in. Newer AMGs also have what's called Emotion Start. You can press and hold one of the shift paddles while starting the engine for a more emotional warm start. Doesn't do anything on a cold start, though.

Great Info and Thanks!!
I start it up in an enclosed garage area so I can hear the exhaust clearly and it almost sounds
as if the valve opens and then closes again? but I can be wrong....

The valves have various stages of "open", depending on mode and rpm. At lower rpms they aren't fully open. There are EVM modules from Renntech and others that override the stock valve behavior and always open them up fully. Some people have these installed.

Do you have the pre-facelift or facelift? As forum member superswiss mentioned, cold start is loud only because of the higher RPM and the car's trying to heat up the cats, once RPM settles to normal idle speed it will not be as loud.

I see. To keep it simple though, car learns your driving behaviour, if you drive it in sport+ and flooring it often, it will open up for example, other than that, the EVM mentioned is also a good first step unless you want to go downpipe.
