After more research and checking the following thread I’ve made progress but not fully resolved the issue around the PE valves.
https://mbworld.org/forums/c450-c43-...d-working.html

In the referenced post it was shown that a 7.5 amp pigtail fuse had blown as a result of a wire shorting out on the PE valves. I’ve inspected the wiring around the valves and no apparent issues but upon tearing into the passenger footwell to inspect the fuse, I found that it was indeed blown. Replaced that, started the car and it immediately blew, so I must have a short somewhere.
The interesting thing is that now the PE valves appear to be stuck open instead of closed…I’m good with that! Unfortunately, it has also brought back another gremlin that I had a couple months ago ago, in that the Active Brake Assist and Blind Spot Assist functions have both stopped and are throwing error messages on the dash. When this occurred previously I’m pretty sure it was caused by my using the undercarriage pressure wash at the car wash, but they went away after a few days and functionality returned (minus PE). Yeah, I know, I always wash by hand but in the winter in Pa that’s impossible to do.
So, in conclusion, something on the underside Is shorting out so probably will have to head to the dealer for full diagnosis. I just find it very strange that the electronics supporting the exterior sensors cross over with those for the Performance Exhaust. Then again, it is a Benz!
I’ll post once I get dealer results unless someone has other suggestions to look into.

Most likely one of the actuators has water in them and got shorted.
Could be that there is corrosion on the pcb in side the actuator that has blown some components.

Very stupid of benz, putting the actuators on the actual exhaust and not remotely with some pull cables like some motorcycles do.

The actual actuator or the cables? I seen another thread showing the cables simply exposed to the elements so it can easily get inside.

Resolved!

After all my efforts I had no choice but to go to the dealer. Long story short and $1k later my issue was resolved by replacing the wiring harness within the back bumper. Whether through grounding, or more likely water damage (note to self, never use undercarriage wash again), the only wires common to bumper sensors and PE flap actuators were shorted there, causing the 7.5 amp pigtail fuse under the passenger footwell to blow. After
replacement, all is good and I can once again control the sound to match my mood.
It may be my emotional reaction to the melodious sound of the PE but I swear there’s more power. Thinking that the flaps being locked “closed” was inhibiting flow, causing degradation of performance.

I see, to prevent it from happening in the future, should protect it with sealant: https://mbworld.org/forums/c450-c43-...ml#post9134867
