Front Engine Cover leaking oil

2016 C450 with 62K mile on it. Dealer found oil leaking from the front cover and quoted $1,883 to reseal front cover.

MB dealer diagnosis: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EBI...ew?usp=sharing
(1:30 mark)

Is this normal for this mileage?
Is its hard to do? Should I local Euro specialised shop to do it?

I've got dealer quoting over $10K for rear differential, engine cover reseal, break pads and tire replacement so I am trying to get all these done at a more reasonable price. I'm going to do the brakes and get the tires from Tirerack, but will have someone do the rear differential and engine cover.

Thanks!

I wonder if changing the rear differential fluid would help, at least temporarily?

Don't only do upper timing cover(s).
No sense paying twice for same thing.

Instead... replace intake VVT Phaser(s) + tensioner(s).
That job includes the leaky RTV seal with new aluminum screws.

Now at the same time deal with leaky CPS, pigtails and solenoids before reaching "engine out harness job".

yeah I already had the rear differential fluid changed. It didn’t help.

Before I sold mine I had this exact issue. That was what the dealer charged me to do that same repair.

Same here, covers leaked and dealership repaired for big $$. I think I created a thread on it. After searching here, I wish I had done the work myself. And yes, look at the other "while you're in there" jobs. It's really good advice.

@ElvisATX Hi. Did you have the dealerships fix the leaks, or try it yourself?

I had all the repairs done … but divided things up.

I got new tires from Tirerack.com $1,000 for Continental Extremecontact DWS 06

then I had a transmission shop replace the rear diff $3,900

and just got the dealer to fix the engine leak this week $1,700

so I’m spent out about $6.6K so far.

i figure its ok since will will probably keep the car another 10 years since it only has 62K miles on it .

I’ve ordered rear brake rotors and pads from FCP Euro and will do those myself soon. $400

I’ve spent $10K in maintenance on the car in the first 10 years before these recent fixes. We’ll see if the costs go up or down. I’ll be doing the simple stuff like oil changes, brakes, battery, etc in my own whereas the first 8 years were purely dealer maintained.
