Don't get me wrong, I love this car, but is it me or do those pics look as if the front fenders are wider than the rear ones? Could it be the car has a wider front track than in the rear

It definitely does look like that, but it may just be the angle. That can definitely be fixed with a little effort

It is not an optical illusion, the front fender flares are bigger, much bigger than the rear. It is not the first time Mercedes has done this, my w124 is the same.
The car still looks amazing though, if I had the money...

I love the new look of the car.Much of a sporty type.I have always loved Mercs. There is no other carmaker on the planet that comes close to MB in heritage.

They used to over engineer their cars and you can find them running for decades all over the world.. Africa, Middle east, Asia you name it…a late eighties/early nineties model was the epitome of what a car design should be. BayEmVey (BMW) cannot touch mercedes IMHO.

BMW cars are just for sporty types who dont know what good design should be. They dont even have the heritage of merc and cannot touch that luxury ride. Disagree as you may but all cars aspire to be a Merc. Problem is that they diluted the brand by

1. Making MB exclusive for rich folks.

2. Classic designs replaced by un-merc like themes like ovoid lamps.

3. Not overengineering their cars like they used to. Fortunately, the new c-klasse is aiming to rectify 2 and 3.

If only they fix the #1 as well… forget toyota, you'd be looking at MB as world's numero uno.

But would you like to see MB prolific like GM on the road?

Thanks for clearing this one up. Not sure if I like that, I'll just wait and see how it looks in the flesh.

The car is growing on me. I was looking a a Gran Turisimo or an E AMG but I like the styling and "wolf in sheeps" clothing aspect of the C63.

I understand they will also be offering a 30 performance package?

The interior looks a little spartan for my tastes. I wonder if they will have enough upgrade options to make the car more luxurious.

Hopefully Power Chip Group and Evo Sport can come out with a stage 1 kit and get this thing to a 500hp bench mark.
Here is what the c55 gain was just from a chip.
In standard form, the C55 AMG 5.5 V8 produces 362 hp and 376 lb.-ft.

Powerchip increase it's power to between 380 hp it's torque to between 394 lb.-ft
The price of the Powerchip is USD $990.00.
Thats 18 hp with 91 octane. If this follows true to the c63 the car is easy to get to 475. So some where they can squeez out 25 more hp I would guess.

keep in mind these engines come with the charcoal filter, which has been proven to add power when removed.

Tuning, remove charcoal filters and add green filters should yield about 20 to 25hp very easily.

Add the sprint booster module, for better throttle response.

and remove the resonator.. for sound.

and you have a nice little machine that handles pretty good. Won't beat an M3, but your wife and kids will thank you for it.

*headers and TB would be the next choice.

Took BMW almost the same amount of time, They just introduced it with the E92. Audi still doesn't.

BTW, am I the only one excited about the return of the ML55 style powerdome hood????

Audi most certainly does My friend's '01 A6 tiptronic has rev-matched downshifts. All of the Audi's I've driven (loaners, friends, test drives, etc) since 2001 has had rev-matched downshifts with the tiptronic transmission. Also the DSG gearbox includes it as well.

C-Class
to unleash the full potential of that 6.2 V8, you may have a look at the Brabus B63 S kit:

BRABUS B63 S - 550 hp / 404 kW and a Top Speed of up to 330 km/h for all Mercedes 63 AMG Models

Even more power for all Mercedes 63 AMG models: BRABUS ( http://www.brabus.com/ ) presents its B63 S engine tuning, which boosts power output of the high-revving 6.2-liter V8 to 550 hp / 404 kW and peak torque to 650 Nm. With a sprint time from rest to 100 km/h of just 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h (206mph)a CLS 63 AMG with B63 S tuning turns in performance worthy of a true super sports car.

The BRABUS power kit comprises newly programmed engine electronics with special mapping for injection and ignition. But that’s not all: The intake side features a sport air filter for improved supply of combustion air. The exhaust side features high-performance metal catalysts with low back pressure that also ensure that the tuned V8 engine meets stringent EURO IV emission limits.
greetings,
felix

A 54/46 weight distribution is expected according to the Motor Trend article.

While the new C63 is impressive, it is not changing my original feelings for the C55 AMG. Just not feeling that sliding radio cover, reminds me of the Nissan 350Z's storage cubby compartment that has a very flimsy flipping plastic cover.

From that article: New ball bearings offer twice the rigidity of the stock front-axle bearings.
Who cares about the radio cover??? It's got bigger *****.

future amg hp

With the released of the c63, I think this is how the future (next two, three years) of AMGs enigines will shape up:

"baby amgs":
C, SLK, CLK, ML, R: 6.3 NA engines = 450-500hp

"big gun amgs":
E, CLS, CL, S, SL: Turbo/super charged 6.3 engines = 550-650 hp. Plus the V12 boosting 650hp plus.

This is based on how the 55 power plan were distributed among the classes. I can't wait !!!

People who just bought the new 6.3 E, CLS, and S class with the 500hp range might be pissed thought since the enigine out put will (have to) change within the next year or two to further seperate the "baby" AMGs from the big guns.

I really like what AMG did on this one. It's definitely looking way better that the Standard bland launch edition. The humps on the hood are very nice. Same as older SLK and ML Sport editions.

I would buy one. They should sell them for the current C55 price range. Mid 50's. =) Let's talk to MB Headquarters and get Groupbuy pricing! lol....

I hope so too, but in all likelyhood I doubt it. The US market always gets screwed on the good euro seats. I'm still mad about the non carbon seats I got in my gt3.

And to think a year or so ago you thought this car would never happen.

So is it nice enough to make you go back to your AMG roots and return to the c-class family?

Power to weight ratio

BRABUS B63 S - 550 hp / 404 kW and a Top Speed of up to 330 km/h for all Mercedes 63 AMG Models

Even more power for all Mercedes 63 AMG models: BRABUS ( http://www.brabus.com/ ) presents its B63 S engine tuning, which boosts power output of the high-revving 6.2-liter V8 to 550 hp / 404 kW and peak torque to 650 Nm. OK I understand power to weight ratio isn't the only factor in determining performance, but lets take a look at a few worthy models of 997:

997 Turbo: 3500 lbs / 480 hp – 460 lb-ft. Ratio: 7.3 lb/hp
997 GT3: 3075 lbs / 415 hp – 300 lb-ft. Ratio 7.4 lb/hp
997 GT3 RS: 3031 lbs / 415 hp – 300 lb-ft. Ratio 7.3 lb/hp

C63 curb weight 3814 lbs, therefore in order to match the ratio of either 997 Turbo or GT3 RS, it needs at least 522 hp.
Brabus claimed that their B63S would work on all 63 models to produce 550 hp, but I honestly doubt it would on C63.
But what if it does ?

One thing that would be hard to do on our 63 engine is to significantly improve the power band. Not with n/a configuration.
As a comparison, 100% of those 997s' ponies are available at 1950-5000 rpm flat. But I'm sure in a few years someone will come up with some type of forced induction technology for our 63 lineups. And then the plot thickens.

They look like the same seats from the U.S. CLK63 Black Series, it is one-piece shell seats we don't get because they don't have any airbags. I'm betting these are the seat we'll get, they have the bags on the side.

This is pretty much what I think will happen too, but I think the AMG V12 will be phased out at some point. I don't think Mercedes is going to be able to put down more than 650hp. The turbo V8 will arrive at S/CL facelift time along with a new SL just like before in 2003 when the SL55 arrived along with the facelifted S55/CL55 and S600/CL600 models. So say 2007, 2008 and 2009, then for 2010 bam, at least 575hp from the V8 in the SL, E, CL, S and whatever that mid-engined sports car is going to be. Meanwhile we get a facelifted SL63 next year.
