with the low msrp, it seems to me that mb is willing to build as many c63s as they can sell. gone are the days when AMGs were considered "exclusive" cars, <500 units per yr.. they might be shipping 5000+ per yr

Other than specialty cars like the CLK Black Series, those volumes have been gone for a long time.
According to the AMG Private Lounge they built 5217 SL55's for the US in 2004.
What is ironic is that the "Perception" has held out this long that they only build 500 units of a model per year.
They still build some of the baddest cars on the planet and if they cut the volume to those levels, my guess is that many on this board would not be driving them because of the higher costs.

a quarter mile at a time
I'd say a TON of them. I heard somewhere that BMW sold more E46 M3's than the entire AMG lineup for that time period. I expect MB to sell just as many C63's just because of the increased performance and attractive price.

talked to my dealer yesterday (he called to tell me base price $53800, didn't have prices on the options yet) and said there will be 100 model year 08 C63's with at least 50 of them going to California dealers. Production numbers for 09 would increase and depend on how fast the 08's sell.

Dealer I talked to today said they are getting four. They have two fully loaded not reserved yet, but they are asking $7K over sticker. I told her I could wait two months (or whatever for the 09s) and get the PP for less, or just go to my BMW guy at MSRP. They seem pretty confident that they are gonna move them.

As for the production for the first year? I would guess it will be somewhat limited as the '09 will be hitting dealer floors sometime around August/September. My guess will be between 500-750 '08 C63's in the states.
