I was! That's me in the red C63 in Drive photo. Nice day but a bit rushed, too many people. 35 cars divided by several hundred eager Bathurst "V8 Supercar champions" did not leave much time to enjoy the track. I mainly went for the C63 but only got three laps in it. The track is awesome , definitely not for the faint-hearted!

The C63 did seem to steer around the tight bends better than CLK, CLS and E63, even permitting mid-corner correction without "ploughing" out in a straight line. On the 1.2mi main straight the E63 got up to150mph but the C63 only managed 145mph. Those additional 68HP at top end did make a difference. I am no great fan of E63, still preferring my E55, but I was a little disappointed, after all the hype, with the C63. To be fair, three laps (12mi) wasn't enough to properly "discover" the new car. Superficially though, it is still "only a C-class", with a cheap looking interior, a pair of great track seats which will not accommodate a majority of Americans and a nice steering wheel. As a daily driver, it is nowhere near as nice a car as E55 or E63.
Since most Americans value straight line performance over handling, any advantage C63 might have over E63 will be wasted on the long, straight roads. Then there are the potholes...those owners with supersized backsides with extra padding will certainly need them. My bum is too boney! The sound of its exhaust is absolutely fantastic, especially coming from such a small looking four-door sedan. It is cheaper than RS4 and M3 and justifiably so.

So was there anything that you liked about the C63 other than the amazing noise?

I did say it handles well too Who knows, maybe I will still buy it once the "wheels fall off" the E55. At this stage, it's no contest, but I am biassed, having really used my E55 on all sorts of tracks, circuits and as a daily driver. I guess it's like an "old shoe" we just cannot part with!
