Anyone Deciding between C63 and Nissan GT-R?
Hey All.
Just curious. I know they are different cars, but they are just a stones throw apart in terms of price. I was heavily leaning towards the C63 and the practicality of a 4 door sedan, but winter driving is definitely a concern for me being in the Midwest. With the GT-R, only 2 doors but still at least a 2+2...maybe worth it for the increased performance and AWD ---- this bad boy can be driven ALL year long.
Thoughts?

CLK 500(Gone), C63 FTW!
I am considering it...until yesterday I went to nissan dealer and they already Pre-sold all of their GTR (1 dealership only got 3 GTR). and the sold it for $125,xxx !!!!!!!!!!!!
that's like $55,000 Mark-up....that's out of my budget...Also, the next shipment will be on August 2009 ---> yeah, it's 2009 not 2008! Need $20,000 Deposit! Insane.....still not enough yet? They still asking for $85,500 before tax and license

I think the pricing is really dependent on the market you are in and the dealership itself. One dealer in my area is charging "between $90 adn $100k", another asking for $5k over but no delivery until late 2009 atthe earliest, another has early 2009 but requires payment in full at the time of order. Anyways, I am only considering the car because of the latter option.

I agree with you that it's not too much more than the C63. But the reasons why I'm reluctant to pull the trigger is that I refuse to pay over MSRP for any car, especially $10k--but $5k, I could probably live with. Also, has Nissan said anything about how much it will cost to maintain? I don't want to be slapped with a bill for a $1000 oil change or $3000 brake job. Last but not least, $75k+ for a Nissan? Eh, I could live with that too for the performance and looks.
I actually saw one on the 405 yesterday. Looked damn good.

Personally I don't see how someone would be torn between the two, they are two totally different cars with two totally different markets in mind, but thats just my opinion. I am looking to get a C63, and it never crossed my mind to get a GT-R. The only thing they have in common is the price, and the GT-R as mentioned is going for ridiculous mark-ups.
But that is typical for any new car with that much hype. Just like the Z06, Shelby GT500 when they first came out they wanted $10K+ over sticker now you can get them at sticker or under. I think given a few more months and they will come down, besides just look at the economy.

Some of you who many know me here have heard me say I will be getting a C63 to replace the C55 (that was last year). Times have changed, I've kept the C55, and I've recently put money down on an "option to purchase" a Nissan GT-R from the biggest Nissan dealer in the U.S. When my number comes up and the price is set, I will decide. If Nissan tries to rob me of my $$$ with an extravagant markup, I will take my money to the Mercedes cartel and get the C63.
I've seen the GT-R in silver on the 605 near Katella (manufacturer plate) & it looked way better than the pics you've seen. True, it's a Japanese car & kinda reminds me of the Toyota Celica lol. But that AWD and launch control on the GT-R makes it one sick *** rice rocket lol. Plus, I've driven alot of Nissan and Infiniti rental cars from Hertz and the interior quality is quite nice, on par with Mercedes...
I agree, all the hype on these new speed demons ala C63, M3, GT-R will die down as will their ridiculous markups. We are in for a deep and long recession, the dollar is at an all time low thanks to our ever increasing trade deficit, and gas prices are over $4 per gallon......yipeee!!!

In terms of maintenance, there was a recent article written about the GT-R. It seems that Nissan is requiring some routine maintenance items be done in order to maintain the warranty. I recall it had something to do with tweaking the onboard computer systems, suspension, and everything else to ensure that everything remains in spec according to Nissan. Also, the OEM tires were some sort of race compund so expect a whopping 8k miles out of those. It seems like Nissan succeeded a building a race car that looks like a street car including the maintenance that goes with it. Not really my idea of a daily driver if it has to be at the dealer 4-5 times a year for regular maintenance.
Here's the article. Although these are rumors, the answers to some of them seem like they are a definite possibility.

I was looking at a CLS55 or an M6, and took the GTR the second I saw it at the NYAS. It looks THAT GOOD in person.

Personally what logo is on the car doesnt matter to me, but when i was at the LA auto show and they had the GT-R i was floored. Personally i dont like the pictures of it, but in person its absolutely stunning, but i talked to 1 of the people working the booth and they said that i wouldn't fit in it( im 6'7'' and change) so thats y i got the C63.
They're both bad mf's but i think the nissan is sicker

Yes but you're comparing apples to oranges here. The Nissan is more of a bargain Porsche Turbo than C63 competitor. It absolutely blows away the C63 in every measurable performance category.

Think of it this way. The same tech who services your $80k GT-R has been servicing $15k Sentras for the last 5 years. Kind of a scary thought there. I know they will probably have special training for the GT-R guys but the learning curve will be high for the first few years until all of the bugs get worked out of the system and the common problems start to surface throughout the platform.
