How can we get the full potential of our 6.3?
I'm no automotive expert, but from what I understand the 6.3 motor in our C63s are the same engine in the SL63, E63, and CLK63. I read somewhere that our engine was actually toned down to 451hp versus the 500hp in the other models.
Is there a way to get this untapped power? Would it be a chip or is it more complicated than that like head work?

Also, as posted on another thread, MKB are claiming 520hp with an ECU flash alone.

...I'm new to the AMG scene and I haven't studied the 6.2, but I did go through a rebuild for my 3.6 in my 911 and I know that how well an engine breaths is a huge factor in tapping into more power. So, until the tuners do their thing, I think it'll be hard to know where the bottlenecks are on the C63. Maybe it IS the ECU that's detuned and bottleneck. Maybe the diameter of this or that on the intake side is tight, or there's a lot of turbulence in the intake manifold. Who knows. Probably noone at this point. We know the 6.2 is the same 6.2 found in other cars. So, power gets maximized by the freedom/amt of air that you can move into it and out of it, then tuning the ecu to get to the ideal AFR.

I just did a quick read at MKBs site. From what they say, I'm guessing they custom dynotune the ECUs w/ the car on a dynometer. They probably start w/ some baseline mapping then tweak it. That's really the only way to truly maximize the ECU mapping. When you get an off the rack mapping, it has to account for different gas, ppl at differnt altitudes, oem air filters in some cars, not in others, etc, etc.

the C63, and im pretty sure all AMG 63's come with 2 types of air filters
the normal ones, and an added charcoal air filter
many ppl here have removed the charcoal filters, and then re-dyno'd
they say it adds anywhere from 10-20 HP
pretty slick for something so easy and free

Car least likely to be in the right lane: the PRIUS
(sorry off topic)
They always try to holeshot me to the open lane on the freeway when I'm in my wife's bug. But, I always win b/c Turbo Bugs rule! ...a least when I'm racing against Priuses.

CWW wrote this on the E55 board in a thread comparing the E55 to the C63. It'd be great if his comments prove true...
"The thing with the 63's is, they tend to get a lot faster after the first 5k miles or so.
When the E63 came out, everybody was saying the same thing. It was a slow pig and just wouldn't go fast. They were getting walked all over the place by E39 M5's, etc. But now, even the bone stock ones have loosened up to where they're down in the 12s.
So I would say it's way too early to write the C63 off yet. It's much lighter than the E63, which after getting broken in turned out to be a strong performer. The C63 has the same motor and weighs less. It's not rocket science that it should be faster eventually.
I also don't think Mercedes' claims of "de-tuning" are anything more than marketing hype designed to avoid the possibility of steering E63 buyers into buying the cheaper E63. The E55's were allegedly 469hp instead of the 500 or so that the same engine produces in CL and S class applications, for the same marketing reasons. However, the dyno comparisons of S55's and E55's proved they are exactly the same...and I bet the same thing is happening with the C63 vs. E63 numbers.
And even if they did manage to de-tune it, getting the ECU done will fix that immediately for almost no money, at which point it's a no-brainer that the C63 will outperform the E63 because of the weight difference. Personally, I think the C63 is going to be a very strong performer when they get broken in."

just look what EvoSport did for their BS CLK build. with Full exhaust, Underdrive pully, Tune, and intake (filters). they picked up 100 Horsepower!

There is not much info on air filters. Too much emphasis on headers and tune but nothing like the simple basic mod(air filters).

Because the filters don't add much power. Someone here did a dyno on K&Ns and IIRC, the increase was 5HP/2TQ. That was using a North American airbox.
