So the M3 is rated at 14/20 and the C63 is rated at 12/19. Is that really a large enough difference to be basing the buy decision on?

You know the C63 is also less $$$ then the M3 so I hope you save ALOT of gas to make up the difference.

Hope you make the RIGHT choice

PS if you get the M3..... next time you drive it and are looking at the tail lights of a C63 ask your self......how much gas am I saving???

I will give you an answer that is not a smart a$$ one. I have had nothing but BMW's, two of them M3's and the new M3 is very disappointing. Not much of an improvement over the old one. A modded 335i is damn close to new M3 and stock has more torque. Let me repeat...BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.

On the other hand the C63 is awesome. If you just look at the trade rags the M3 gets better ratings for handling on a track but to a man almost every reviewer would rather own the C63 because it is WAY more fun to drive. It is also much faster in a straight line which is better for most of us.

There you have it, IMHO.

09 C63 (Coming Soon)
Ugh... How annoying is this?

You come onto a C63 forum to ask which car to purchase? Then you mention something about gas milage being a concern?

Try reading the COUNTLESS reviews/comparisons of the IS-F, C63, M3, and RS4. Better yet, go ask the guys on bimmerforums, dtmpower, or audiworld which one is better...

I think your dad should drive both and decide for himself (and not worry about the gas mileage)... It's a personal choice IMHO..

CLK 500(Gone), C63 FTW!
Not trying to be rude...but if your dad still concern about the gas millege...maybe should choose the C-350? or 335i?

coz everytime you drive one of those car...you will most likely step on the gas pedal more often, compared to Prius

What I like!
They get about the same mpg in real-world driving. Check M3post, plenty of whining there about the M3's gas mileage.

Agree with yaymitch; the new M3 is a HUGE disappointment (I had a 2002 M3 and loved it). I drove both the M3 and C63 on the same day - the M3 felt slower and heavier than my slightly modded CLK500 and the C63 felt faster than my modded SLK55. The 63 engine is just incredible - it is probably pumping out out closer to the 500 hp mark but MB is marketing only 450ish to not soil their other brands. Only draw back is the weight of the C - at nearly 4,000 it is just down right heavy. That is why the "city mpg" is so bad with all the stop and go.

I test drove the M3 back in april as i was undecided, but after the drive, i was not thirlled about that car, it didnt excite me, didnt give me that feeling i was looking for. I ordered the C63 without driving it as i read so much and joined this forum and got some awesome reviews from our fellow members. I was iffy about the 7spd as i was always used to the manual on all toys, but after recieiving the car this week, i know i had made the right choice, 100%.

If gas mileage is a concern, look at the IS-F. It trounces both cars.

Just don't get it...

I've been reading several posts like this one for some time now. What is up with everybody being so concerned about the gas mileage between PERFORMANCE cars?

As it was already stated, the actual difference is only like ~$1000 or so. When you're paying around $65-70k for a performance car, and you start getting worried about things like gas mileage, brake maintenance, oil changes, etc., maybe it's time to reevaluate once financial priorities. Now I'm not calling anybody in particular out on this, I simply just want to take the opportunity to shed some light on the subject. Personally, I would rather drive a less expensive car and not have to worry about "the next bill" than drive a car out of my budget and pinch pennies on gas or whatever else.

To each their own, but I am looking forward to putting my deposit on an 09 C63 down without having to put my accountant on speed dial.

Just to clarify, this is a ballpark figure based on a year's worth of gas consumption...

The new M3 is only a disappointment on the street where you cannot fully utilize its modern supercar grade handling.

The C63 on the other hand assaults you with its fine exhaust note as soon as you fire it up. If that isnt enough, its acceleration and exhaust roar will instantly win you over after a blast down the street.

neither car is slow or poor handling, but each one has a different emphasis. it is up to you which you prefer.

Sorry, my post is a little off-topic, but it's regarding the people who've said the new M3 is disappointing and furthermore dare to compare a modded 335i to an M3. Not even close. Not even close at all.

I'm not saying the new M3 blows the old one out of the water, but clearly you had a 2 minute test drive, not on a highway (or a track). The new M3 is capable of cornering like you've never seen before -- and significantly better than the RS4 or C63 (no offense guys). There's a pretty good reason why TOP GEAR, FIFTH GEAR, EDMUNDS, almost all the car magazines (bias or not), have selected the M3 as the winner and much better than the old one.

It's kind of like the iPhone versus iPhone 3G, they are both good phones, but clearly the updated one is better, if only for 3G/GPS.

FYI - I've driven many BMWs.

yea i agree.....

here is why i perfer the C63 tho:

it has the M3 beat in the looks dept BY FAR (imho)

its character is alot more agressive, as the M3 is more compossed

and its very hard to take full advantage of the M3s super handling if youre not on a track

99.9% of people here have not been behind the wheel of the new M3, and seen how easy it is to drive and how well it grips the road. That superior handling really matters on the street just as much as on the track.

Tried both, prefer the C63.

I suggest anyone wishing to buy such a car does the same and make their own mind up. It's your money why let someone else tell you how to spend it....

The M3 is a better handler than the C63 based on the latest mags, but if you are after grunt, go for the C. We are looking at a couple of hundred lbs difference, which is pretty significant but the 63 engine is really mouth watering.

If you want a more balanced ride, go for the M3. I've driven the previous generation model but I haven't been behind the wheel of a new one.
