ok guys, you're right - just got back from driving pretty much all over NJ!

Some crappy pics are attached - will take come good ones and post this weekend. Love the color combination - really works for me.

Initial impressions:

- That engine - simply stunning.
- The sound - an intoxicating mix of v8 whine from the front and quad exhaust rumble from the back - if you don't like attention, this is not the car for you.
- The ride - actually pretty good. No problem on broken up NJ roads. Firm but great control. aNyone who thinks it's too firm needs a luxury car instead.
- Handling - surprisingly terrific - great control and impressive feel.
- The interior - looks stunning. Quality is really nice. I think the color combo helps and the smell of the nappa is great
- Command system or whatever it's called - absolutely awful - makes iDrive seem truly brilliant. Phone system is a mess. Nav is non intuitive. Voice command is more trouble than it's worth. Even the audi MMI is better and I don't really like that. Very interested to see if my opinion improves with familiarity.
- The seats - mixed review. I'm 5'6" 170, broad back and shoulders - tough to get all the way back in them. Certainly not a deal killer but they should have shorter bolsters. You'll be fine if you're taller. My options: PII, Multimedia, AMG leather, ipod.

Overall impressions - I love this car. My 550i was a very good car, just never felt special. This is a monster and i love it. The only problem - I don't think there's enough road for the engine

Look forward to providing more details and a better overall impression after the weekend.

Awesome interior, nice color choice both in and out, the nav/command at first irked me abit, i also have the idrive in the bimmer and after a week with the MB i find it as good, just takes some getting used to. Let us know how big of a smile you get this morning at initial start up

No performance package. The ride is great. Better than an e46 M3 and amazingly better than my 2007 BMW 550i sport.

Thanks for the comments guys and I will take some way better pics this weekend and post. I hear you on the MMI and will post what I consider to be a more valid assessment when I've had a week or so to play with it. I have noticed a couple of positives - love that it recognises and shows CD titles, songs etc.

For some reason my steering wheel doesn't move out of the way when I power down - any one else know how (or if) that feature works?

Also, I don't see my ipod on the nav screen, only the speedo, and seems very quirky. I assume there is some method to getting it working successfully. Any advice or is it in another thread I've missed?

Thanks to all and yes, this am, BIG smile when I started her up - I park in a basement garage in my building - think I woke up half of my neighbors

Also fascinating to see other driver's reactions.

Last night some dude in an M6 convertible waved me across an intersection and on hearing the 63 he gunned the M6 - sort of a conversation using exhaust notes. You know which sounded better!

Driving to work today, some dude in an S4 nearly ran into a wall and then drove it like a madman to make a statement I guess - I didn't bite. I don't need to. We all know how the 63 performs.

Small pleasures adding up to big fun.
